Re: Comp stopping during a game
Hullo Mesca and welcome to TSF,
I need to know your system specs before I can go any further with your problem CPU RAM Motherboard Graphics Card PSU (Power supply Unit the box that powers your comp) What I'm thinking is that your PSU is failing and before long it will fail and bring down your computer with it. Can you go into the Bios and tell me what the 12v rail says? |

Re: Comp stopping during a game
The PSU is this thing.
![]() I need to know what it says on the label. Your temps are alright not the best same with your voltages. The safe range for the rails is +/- 5% so that would be for the 12v rail a difference 11.4 to 12.6 |

[quote=Mescaline);2415458]About configuration :
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3 ( smthn new to me -.- i thought i have sp2 ) Just wanted to let you know; windows updates your computer in the backround, and although it tells you what is being installed you probably don't read it or care about it. I had to manually install Service Pack 3 but on another computer a big window appeared saying "Service Pack 3 is now available, would you like to install it now?". These things get missed easily.

Re: Comp stopping during a game
The +12V rail is running extremely low. ATX says that it can be +/- 5%, which would mean 11.4 - 12.6. In reality, at 11.7V you usually start seeing graphics card issues. 11.5-6V will see random shutdowns. 12.3V can cause overheating, and 12.5V can cause hardware damage. So your +12V voltage is really not good and could explain why you are crashing.

Re: Comp stopping during a game
You must change the PSU. SOmething like this will be a lot more stable.

Re: Comp stopping during a game
The most common cause of random shutdowns is a power supply issue. This combined with the low +12V reading of 11.73V (and that's in BIOS; the +12V decreases more the more load you put on it, at least with the type of voltage regulation used on cheap supplies) and the fact that the user seems unfamiliar with his PSU (hinting that it may be an OEM unit, which are usually cheap and low-quality), a PSU issue is almost certainly the cause.
