Lag and fps issues after installing windows 7 64bit.

I'm experiencing alot of fps drops and lagg issues after upgrading to win7 64bit.
When I first start out playing it runs just fine, but after awhile it starts to lag up more and more. It's always in the more crowded areas and when there's more action.
I have only been testing in CS 1.6. I never had this problem when I used win xp 32bit.

All my drivers are up to date.

This is what I've tried so far:
- all the Nvidia drivers that are compatible.
- updated directx
- reinstalling drivers.
- done the regedit "fix" for both sound and network issues.
- changed powersettings for performance (laptop, the battery is not inserted btw.)
- turning off aero themes in win.
- adjusted nvidia settings to prioritize performance.
- adding -dx11 to the launch options.
- Checked network traffic and cpu + RAM performance while playing.

These are my specs:

Nvidia 8600m GT
Intel Core 2 duo T7700 2.4GHz
2GB memory
Broadcom Netlink (network card)
Windows 7 64bit.
Realtek Soundcard.

I know this is not the most optimal laptop for gaming, but surely it should be able to run CS 1.6 pretty smoothly.

Been trolling every forum in the universe trying to find a solution for the last two days. If someone has one, I am extremely grateful.

Hello and welcome to TSF,
it could be that your laptop is overheating
download SIW from my sig, open it and choose "Sensors" under "Hardware"
check the temps.
play a game for about 10 to 15 mins or when the lag starts, minimize it and recheck the temperatures again.
please post both temp states (idle, under stress)

Who manufactured your laptop? Are you using a cooling pad?

Re: Lag and fps issues after installing windows 7 64bit.

Ingame: Cpu temp 75 and GPU 80-85 varies alot.

these were the same as when I was using XP.

---

I do not use a cooling pad. Manufacturer is Compal.

---

I was also getting lag in ventrilo. fixed this with setting as administrator and XP compatible.
But people complain that it's alot of noise and cracking speech while playing. this occurs when the lag ingame starts.

Also; I do not get the fps drop when playing offline.

Hi.

Those temps are way too high, especially the CPU temp. - They're what's causing the lag issue. Is your laptop dusty? Try blowing all the dust out, especially the dust near the fans on the bottom. If it doesn't help you'll have to invest in a cooling pad.

Re: Lag and fps issues after installing windows 7 64bit.

The over heating is probably the main issue. But it could also be....
You said that you upgraded from winxp 32bit to windows 7 64bit, did you actually do an upgrade or clean install? I would imagine that doing an upgrade from 32bit to 64bit without actually doing a clean install would cause no end of problems. If you did, format your hdd and start again.

Re: Lag and fps issues after installing windows 7 64bit.

OIr you can build one for <20 CAD. Just need some tools/machining equipment, some plexiglass/plastic/cheap metal, a usb controller and a cheap led/nonled 120/140mm fan.

Paying the 35$ is my recommendation. Unless you're totally DIY.
