Left 4 dead: add-on campaigns

With new L4D maps/campaigns formated into vpk. files, I am having some trouble with the game. For instance, how do you make the add-on menu appear in the game. the game I have is not a new one because it hasn't been updated with any patchs. Every time I download a map i cant' seem to make it work with the new format it has. Its like when I try to install the maps the folders i was suppose to put in is not there, but somewhere else. I when I find it and start the game it wouldn't work. the add-on that a lot of people says or shows on the Internet on their L4D game has but mine doesn't. how come is that? Even when I type the map in the console it won't work. I'm been trying for almost a year, and when I finally learn how to install maps last year. they invent a whole new format that is hard for me to figure out. Can anyone help me?

This format is easy. You just dpuble click on it and it installs to the correct directory. Then open up l4d and go ahead and play the map.

Look for the VPK files, double click and you should have your map. Go to singleplayer >> campaigns >> add-on campaigns >> there is your list of downloaded maps.

First, when i make a add-on folder in the L4D folder and put maps in them, shouldn't i be able to type in the maps name in the console (ex: map name). second i am having a problem with playing sp. even when i log in steam. the game still says please log in, so i can't. third my files aren't where there suppose to be. typing th map name in the console is not working.
