please someone help!!!!- an ff8 dillema

final fantasy 8 won't work on my pc........i've pondered countless sites in search of the answer but to no avail.....finally i decided to join this forum ...please see if any of u can help, i'd greatly appreciate it.

The problem - everytime i start the game it shows the words "square electronic arts L.L.C" then the screen goes completely blank and the following error message shows - ff8.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close, we are sorry for the inconvenience.

PLEASE HELP.........i finished all the ff parts this is the only one left........PLEASSSSS HEEEEEELP!!!

o btw my specs are as follows -

Proccesor - Core 2 duo 2.8ghz
Graphics - Intel itegrated graphics card GMA 3100 ( 256mb )
RAM - 4 gb ( shared with graphics card )
sound card integrated - sound max integrated digital HD audio
all hardware is from dell

Can you please first try all of the steps listed here.

You can also try uninstalling the game with RevoUninstaller, restart your computer and re-install.

Finally, you can try running the game in compatibility mode. To do this:

Right Click the executable -> Click "Properties" -> Click the "Compatibility" tab -> Tick "Run in Compatibility mode" -> Choose Windows 98 or 2000.

well i tried those steps before i posted ( all except for no.3, what are mods exactly?? if u'd give me some common examples of them i might understand )

Mods are modifications that you have made to the game. If you haven't ever made modifications to the game's files, don't worry about it.

o that well i guess i got a patch from the net that was supposed to fix a few problems with the game......in fact the game wouldnt even start without it.....besides that no other mods

yes everything....nothing works.......i ran it in all the compatability modes and none of them work

Ok. So the game plays the first of the startup mini-movies and then crashes?

no, it just shows the square enix logo ( which it shows at the very first before everything else ) no movies no nothing.....after that logo it gives that error message

Ok, try this.

Find the folder in which the movies at the start of the game are located, then cut them out and paste them into a new folder somewhere else on the drive then try to play the game. Don't delete them because if it doesn't work you'll still need them.

o ok....ya.....i dont have the movie files....ummm do u knw a download link where i can download them.....i wud greatly appreciate it.......nd even if u dont thanks fot everything, you are a life saver dude. I'll keep searching for the files though

Are you sure you don't have the movie files? I think you might have misunderstood. I think your computer is having trouble playing the movies, they should be there. Check the folder that was created when you installed FF8. in that folder, there should be a bunch of sub-folders. One of them should be called "Movies" or "Video" or something along the same lines. The movies should be located there.

If you find the folder, cut the movies from it and paste them to a new location outside of the game folder, then try to run the game.

Final thing, did you uninstall the game with RevoUninstaller, uninstall and reinstall?

Do you own a legal copy of this game?

yes i do own a legal copy but i lost my installation disc, cos of that i had to download an installation file from the net, but when i installed it there were no movie files in them. And what's the difference between revouninstaller and uninstalling the game normally??

Could you please provide a link to the site you downloaded the game from? We can't assist with games that were not obtained legally. Even if you did originally buy a copy of the game, we can't help you with illegally obtained software.

Sorry but we can't help with torrented games. I suggest you either find your disc, or if you cannot, buy a new copy from a store. This thread will soon be closed.
