Programmable Mouse Buttons not working with HoN

I've been playing the DotA clone Heroes of Newerth (HoN) and everything runs fine, except the programmable buttons of my Razer Lachesis mouse do not work in game.

For instance, if I assign a thumb button as the letter "t", when in game the button has no effect. If I minimize the game to my tray, the button works fine and will type t's all day long in notepad or other applications (including DotA).

The core mouse functions (left click, right click, and scroll wheel) work fine. Additionally, all keys work fine in game if typed directly from the keyboard.

I was under the assumption that with a programmable mouse the buttons just trick your computer into thinking its receiving an input from the keyboard. The mouse/keyboard commands should be completely independent from any program that's running, right? So what's going on here?

Re: Programmable Mouse Buttons not working with HoN

Hello and welcome to TSF.

You should try running the game as adminstrator, and also ensure your mouse drivers are up to date. Perhaps also make sure your antivirus or firewall are not blocking the game or the mouse in any way.
