Convert Half Life 1 to Garry's Mod?

Hello there!

I got a problem, i'd be glad if someone can help me with it.

When Half Life 1 just got released, I bought it, and installed, it didn't use steam to install back then.

Now I have Garry's Mod, and in Gmod I can see that you can use the Half Life 1 files in Gmod (Gmod settings).

I installed Half life, but not in steam, so Gmod can't find it. I can't find a possible way to install my game in Gmod, does this mean that steam just wants me to buy it again, but this time on steam?

Oh yeah, I also downloaded Half Life Deathmatch Source (It's like a pre-order, I can click: Purchase now).

And I can use those maps in Gmod, but all the textures are purple and black blocks, wich means that he can't find the materials that are in Half Life.


Can someone please help me, tell me what to do or tell me how to put Half Life in steam or Gmod?

Hello Superrollo,

To add games manually to steam, open steam, click the games tab, then click Add non-steam game to my games list.

Then you will be able to launch garry's mod from steam.

That's not my problem.
It's very possible for me to open Garry's mod in steam.
And I added Half Life 1 as a non steam game, but then he just adds a short cut to the steam game list. That doesn't help anything, but I found a very strange way to fix this:

I downloaded two halflife 1 maps. I added the halflife 1 folder to the steam folder, and If i open one map first, I can also use the other map.

In steam up the top click on Games > Activate a product on Steam.
Enter the Half-Life 1 CD Key. This will then add Half-Life 1 to your games list. Unfortunately you will need to download the game again as its stored in an archive format and not separate files.
