Problem Loading up Fallout 3

My fallout 3 doesn't seem to load up properly. It comes up with the message No disc inserted.
Please insert the original "Fallout 3" CD/DVD.
I have done everything else specified in the thread but i havn't managed to sort it out. I have the dvd inserted and the disk did work before, it just didn't run because i dodn't meet the specifications. I was low on RAM but have recently installed enough RAM. I used the YouGamers program for testing to see if i could run it and it showed that i was above their minimum standards. Any idea's on whats wrong?

Hi eaglehound,
Have you patched the game up to the latest version 1.7?
I know one of the patches makes the game so you don't need the disk in the drive to play it.

So should i download the patch or check that i havn't got the patch installed?

did you get your copy from a reliable source?
is it a legal copy?
also please follow Floop's suggestion and get the latest patch for the game

The copy is legal, it was new when i bought it (plastic wrapping stuf and all)

I have tried installing the 1.7 patch and there still is no chang, it still says
No disc inserted.
Please insert the original "Fallout 3" CD/DVD.

i asked my friends dad, who is a computer "wizz" and he told me to defrag and clean up my disk then try a system restore. This did get the game working again but when i turned it on today it didn't work again.
