crysis wont run in vista 64 bit
this is on behalf of a mate of mine. he has a new computer, quite high spec:
2.5 quad core (i believe its amd tho) 2x ati radeon 4850 in crossfire mode 4gb ram liquid cooled vista premium x64 he has even set part of one of his spare hard drives into an extra 4gb of virtual ram (how well this works i have no idea) ive read that crysis should be able to run on this as 64 bit can make the most out of the ram, but all we get is very jerky game play, even in minimum spec mode (which with his computer, shouldnt be a prob coz even my laptop can run crysis in medium) the intro video looks great, the menu works fine but then as soon as gameplay starts it seems to be moving at about 1fps. then if i press esc and go to the in game menu then even the menu is jerky, and only lets you click at the brief moment between glitches. but exit and go to main menu then its fine again any ideas?? all help appreciated |

Re: crysis wont run in vista 64 bit
Hi K.Stuart.P,
Could you please post the brand and model of your friends Power Supply. Thats a system that needs a good quality power supply with a high wattage. Thanks.

Re: crysis wont run in vista 64 bit
Are you running directx10 or directx9 or opengl? Have you run other 3d tests (I've had good results with 3dmark)? Does Crysis actually have a 64-bit binary or does it run in 32-bit emulation (that question is for anyone who knows)? Are all your drivers up-to-date (I'm looking at your chipset drivers for the motherboard here). I'm assuming you have the latest stable ATI drivers, since you're running in crossfire mode. Are your sound drivers up-to-date, and do you have options for which sound engine to use in-game?
Have you tried without crossfire? While working on certain game dev teams, I've found that using advance SLI modes can severely hinder performance. Try using alternating frames (where one gpu renders one frame while the other gpu renders the next frame) and try split (where each gpu renders half the screen simultaneously).

Re: crysis wont run in vista 64 bit
ive updated the graphics drivers, and yes crysis has a crysis64.exe but it crashes on a black screen when i try and run it. it opens fine with crysis32.exe but the gameplay just doesnt work.
i think its running directx10, but i may redownload it to be sure, and i need to check the power supply to see what its actually pumping out. not a clue how to use alternating frames rather than SLI, bit of an amateur really. il see what else i can find out and let you all know. thanks for the help so far |

Re: crysis wont run in vista 64 bit
Hi.
To get the information about your friend's PSU, you simply need to open the case and look inside. Inside, there will be a large brick-shaped box with a sticker on it. Post all the information on that sticker.

Re: crysis wont run in vista 64 bit
Might I ask where your friend obtained this computer? If he bought it as a pre-built package then opening it may void the warranty. However, if he bought the parts and assembled it himself, then opening it will not void the warranty.
If it was a pre-built PC, then to find out the information you'll probably need to contact the people who sold it to him.
