Computer randomly freezes

While I'm playing a game my computer will randomly freeze, be it while it's idle or when I'm actual using it. It only happened while I played Warhammer 40k DoW2 but it has moved on to when I play WoW (which it never used to happen on). It never recovers from the freeze either, I left it like that for a day and it just stayed the same.

My specs are:

OS: Win XP x64 sp2
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+
RAM: 4 gigs
GPU: GTS 250
PSU: iMicro PS-IM 500w

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me, and thanks in advance to anyone who responds.

Re: Computer randomly freezes

hello dlavizt,
first of all your PSU is low quality and not enough to power the GTS 250
you need at least a 650 W quality PSU like the Corsair 650 W

Re: Computer randomly freezes

Damn that is pricy...I know I have the 250 but it was a gift. Is there something similar but cheaper? I know I shouldn't cheap out on parts, but Right now I really don't have much to spend.

Re: Computer randomly freezes

$90 is a really good price for a top quality PSU like the Corsair.

You can get 650W PSUs from manufacturers like Sunbeam, Rosewill and HEC for $60-70, but we don't recommend those brands for cards like the GTS 250 as their quality is nowhere near as good as you get from Corsair, Seasonic, Thermaltake, etc.

If you still have your old graphics card, I would recommend removing the GTS 250 and reinstalling your old card until you can get a more suitable PSU. It's not worth risking permanent damage to the graphics card and other components through lack of power and overheating. You're already seeing signs of PSU-related problems, so it can only get worse from this point on.

Re: Computer randomly freezes

Hmm yeah, I don't have my old card so I guess I'll just have to wait this out. Thank you for your suggestions and advice.
