Random FPS Drops

I'm not sure if this belongs here but, while playing any game, such as COD4 or Team Fortress 2 my FPS is about 20-30 but randomly it drops to 2-5 fps and randomly goes back, I'm on a laptop if that matters.

My PC Specs are

AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core Mobile RM-72 ~ 2.1 GHz
4GB RAM
ATI Radeon 3200

Re: Random FPS Drops

Hi and welcome to TSF,
Could you post your temps using Everest and go to the "Sensors" tab please.
Your laptop could be overheating as this is a common problem for laptops.
Thanks.

Re: Random FPS Drops

Wow, I didn't realize it was THAT hot the temps are 49 °C(120 °F) for WDC WD2500BEVT-60ZCT1 and 84 °C (183 °F) for CPU.

Is there any way to cool them down?

Re: Random FPS Drops

The temp for your harddrive is not too bad but the temp for your CPU is quite bad. I suggest you buy a cooling pad for your laptop.
Something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-018-_-Product
I think this is whats causing your lag.

Re: Random FPS Drops

Okay, thanks :D

But one more question, how do cooling pads work? Do I just put my laptop on it?

Re: Random FPS Drops

Yes, your laptop would sit on top of the cooling pad, they draw air in from the bottom and sides and blow it up into your laptop.

Re: Random FPS Drops

I got my girlfriend to buy this laptop cooler here.

Antec Cooling system for notebook computers Model Notebook Cooler 200 - Retail

$59

It lowered all the temperatures by around 20C or so. It just has one giant 200mm (20cm) fan on it which takes up most of it. Its the best you could get for a laptop cooler I think.
