[SOLVED] Is my computer ready for Dragon Age: Origins?

Okay, so I was wondering what kind of settings I will be able to play Bioware's upcoming RPG game, Dragon Age: Origins.

Here are my specs:

Mainboard : ASUSTeK Computer Inc. G50VT
Chipset : Intel PM45
Processor : Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo SL9600 @ 2133 MHz
Physical Memory : 4096 MB (2 x 2048 DDR2-SDRAM )
Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GS
Hard Disk : ST9320421AS (320 GB)
DVD-Rom Drive : HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T50L
DVD-Rom Drive : OLWTER IFWXQ38XIF SCSI CdRom Device
Monitor Type : LG Display LP156WH1-TLA3 - 15 inches
Network Card : Wireless WiFi Link 5100
Network Card : RTL8168/8111 PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Adapter
Operating System : Windows (TM) Vista Home Premium Home Edition 6.00.6001 Service Pack 1 (x64)
DirectX : Version 10.00
Windows Performance Index : 5.1

Dragon Age Windows Vista Minimum:

OS: Windows Vista with SP1
CPU: Intel Core 2 (or equivalent) running at 1.6Ghz or greater
AMD X2 (or equivalent) running at 2.2GHZ or greater
RAM: 1.5 GB or more
Video: ATI Radeon X1550 256MB or greater
NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT 256MB or greater
DVD ROM (Physical copy)
20 GB HD space

Dragon Age Recommended:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4Ghz Processor or equivalent
RAM: 4 GB (Vista) or 2 GB (XP)
Video: ATI 3850 512 MB or greater
NVIDIA 8800GTS 512 MB or greater

So, low, medium, or high, or anything in between. I also don't mind tips on how to better my performance, without buying new hardware.

Re: Is my computer ready for Dragon Age: Origins?

Hi and welcome to the forums.

That's a laptop yes?

Just looking at the requirements and your specs, I can tell you that it should do fine. One problem you may have to worry about is overheating, laptops are prone to overheating, especially when playing graphically intense games.

If overheating becomes a problem you should get a cooling pad.

Re: Is my computer ready for Dragon Age: Origins?

Yes, it is a laptop. I purchased it a few months ago, so it is fairly new.

I'm glad you think it will do fine. A cooling pad, eh? I guess I should get one, sounds like a useful accessory. Do you have any recommendations as far as cooling pads go?

I do have an overclocking feature, which I don't truly understand. I think its where you get better performance then intended. Could you explain that to me, please?

I'll have a look for a good cooling pad for you, what do you mean by "an overclocking feature"?

Here you go. That should do quite nicely for keeping temperatures down while gaming.

Overclocking: Here is a link.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overclocking

I read the article, but I don't understand what it is exactly. I have some options on my laptop that are:

Normal
Turbo
Turbo Extreme

Re: Is my computer ready for Dragon Age: Origins?

I know what overclocking means, if I were you, I wouldn't go overclocking components of your computer. Overclocking anything almost always voids the warranty and also causes more heat to be generated (something you don't want in a laptop) and can often make your system unstable.

I'd just stick with the stuff you have, as it should do fine for basically any game.

Re: Is my computer ready for Dragon Age: Origins?

The pad looks great, thanks for the link.

Yeah, my friends were telling me overclocking wasn't a very good idea. They said it could cause damage to the system, so I guess I won't be doing that.

Thanks for the info and stuff!

I just wanted to put my two cents in, even though this thread is solved.

This cooling pad is what my girlfriend owns. Her computer used to be biol your pants to decently cool.
