I can't run

I can't run in any of my games unless the always run feature in the game is enabled. When there isn't an always run feature and I assign and use a key to run the game is unresponsive. Makes it difficult to jump over those caverns.

Hello cabse5,

What games are you trying to play?

I notice your O/S is WIN98, that might be the reason this is happening, since most of the newer games require at least WINXP.

Can you please post your system specs as well,
and click steps before posting in my signature and follow those instructions to see if it resolves this issue.

Re: I can't run

Are you assigning Shift/Ctrl/Alt or one of the alphanumeric keys for running?

Does your keyboard support multiple key presses? Most support 3 or 4, so this shouldn't be a problem.

If you're using a gaming keyboard, have you installed its driver and software?

Re: I can't run

Cdx, I haven't been able to run in ANY game (unless always run) since I upgraded to Windows XP.
Koala, I originally tried to assign the mouse 2 button to run; it didn't work; tried space and alt; neither worked. I'm not sure if I'm using a gaming keyboard because I don't know what a gaming keyboard is; no drivers came with the used keyboard; Gateway2000 is on the upper left of the keyboard. Could an outdated driver(s) for hardware that seems to be unconnected to the problem cause this problem? I may have an outdated driver for the CD drive that runs the game; I know I have an outdated driver for a CD-DVD drive that isn't used to run the games; I had to load an older video driver to view one game.

Thanks for any help.

Re: I can't run

I apologize, i seem to have misread your first statement, i thought you meant you could not run the games, as in play them, but what you are referring to is that you cannot run when you play the games.

Try borrowing another keyboard from somewhere and try using that to see if it will let you run while playing your games, that way we know if it might be the keyboard that is causing the issue.

Also try going to Device Manager, from control panel, and look for your keyboard and right click it and click update drivers.

Re: I can't run

I tried to run while another keyboard was plugged into the CPU; that didn't correct the problem; I right clicked on mice and other pointing devices in the device manager; I pointed to scan for hardware changes; I momentarily received a message about plug and play devices; I don't believe any updated hardware changes were found..

Did you go to Device Manager and right click the keyboard and click Update Drivers?

When you plug in the new keyboard, what kind is it and make sure you turn off your computer, plug in the keyboard, then start the computer.

Also, if you have any gaming controllers which i think you have one connected by usb from looking at your stats up above, unplug any gaming controllers, reboot your computer and try running in the game.

Re: I can't run

I apologize for that remark. What I should have said was this: My computer has two usb ports. One is connected to my modem.. The other is connected to my printer. The alternative keyboard I used came with this computer, used by a library. I don't think it was a gaming keyboard.

Re: I can't run

I searched for an updated driver for this keyboard and got no response. The recommended driver update for the keyboard from the Driver Robot program was for a thinkpad keyboard. Mine is a desktop computer.
