Fallout 3 AA and AF Problem

I need to force AA and AF through the driver, but it doesn't work other people have gotten it to work thru CCC and ATT. AA and AF only works for me when I rename fallout3.exe to oblivion.exe in order to trigger the driver optimizations for oblivion, but I need to use things like LIVE! and FOSE.

The in-game AA works for 10 minutes and then it just disappears after an explosion or using VATS, I can't describe it, go

to http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/in...ic=906965&st=0

and look at the pictures to get an idea.

So is there anyway that I can use the oblivion optimizations and still be able to use LIVE and FOSE?

BTW here's some info relevant to gaming

Q4 9950 BE+ @ stock
2GB mushkin 800mhz
ATI 4850 at stock with latest drivers

Thanks

Go into the ATI Catalyst Control Panel or whatever it's called, and try to force AA and AF from that.

I am concerned as to why you can't set the AA or AF within the game, your card has the ability for it so I don't see why it would not, but I want you to download ATITool and scan for artifacts.

Re: Fallout 3 AA and AF Problem

Uh I'm pretty sure its some 600W with 4 12v rails, I'm sure thats enough as I've used it for like 1 year now without any problems, AA or no AA.

Like I said, driver forced AA (AA from the driver) and AF only works when I rename fallout3.exe to oblivion.exe. I can't use the in game AA because it just cuts out after VATS or explosions, a problem that many people with ATI cards and some Nvidia cards experiences.

the driver has the ability to force AA and AF, but It won't do it for fallout 3. This is the only game on my machine that can't use driver forced AA

BTW, scanned for artifacts for like 10 minutes, 0 artifacts, I did try forcing AA and AF with ATT but it still doesn't work. I've tried all kinds of combinations of AA such as...

In game AA disabled CCC AA enabled
In game AA disabled ATT AA enabled

Re: Fallout 3 AA and AF Problem

The PSU may be failing and its not a quality unit (none of OCZ PSU's are too good). Could you go into the bios and see what it says for the 12 rail or use these three programs and tell me what they say for the 12v rail.

Re: Fallout 3 AA and AF Problem

12V rail says 12.5V, not sure if that's deviating too much, but i'm pretty sure this is not a hardware problem...

Re: Fallout 3 AA and AF Problem

hello billypnats,
try to force the AA and AF in general mode in the forceware and not just in Fallout 3
so in the Manage 3d settings
go to Global Settings and force AA and AF also in Anti-Aliasing mode set it to Override settings

Re: Fallout 3 AA and AF Problem

Your hardware is deviating pretty close to the limit but its not too big a worry right now. Can you check in your bios to what it says there for the 12v rail too. The limit is + or - 5% for the 12v rail. SO that's 11.4 - 12.6. I would do what RockmasteR said first to see if it resolves the problem.

Re: Fallout 3 AA and AF Problem

huh? I have no clue what rockman just said D: , I use catalyst so idk...

BTW I looked around the bios and can't seem to find the voltage thing.

And just so that this is clear, I CAN use the in-game AA but I don't WANT to cus it just cuts out (stops working) after an explosion.

Driver forced AA does not cut out, thats why I'm using it

Re: Fallout 3 AA and AF Problem

Uninstall your ATI drivers (including your catalyst thing) using revouninstaller and just install the display driver.

Under Individual Components just the display driver

If your computer is 32 bit
ATI Radeon 4850

If your computer is 64 bit
ATI Radeon 4850

Re: Fallout 3 AA and AF Problem

I've thought of a solution but its kinda weird

Have you tried using ATITool and scan for artifacts. If any are found it is likely that your video card is damaged.

Re: Fallout 3 AA and AF Problem

No, 0 artifacts last time and besides, AA in every other game works just fine. Driver forced AA and AF only works if I rename Fallout3.exe to Oblivion.exe but I can't do that because then I can't use the script extender that's so important to all gamebryo games

Is this a legal copy of the game?

Re: Fallout 3 AA and AF Problem

yes it is a legal copy...

Ok is there any viable solution to this?

I'm not a hardcore computer guy but I'm pretty sure this is not a hardware problem (PSU or GPU as NONE of any other games such as crysis, oblivion which has the same engine, various MMOs and tomb raider has the similar issue), or a "legal" problem.

I'm convinced that there's something in the driver's that I messed up that's not overriding application settings correctly.
