Problem with gaming
Hey guys, I've recently built a new computer, and I've been having problems when gaming.
Those problems include: -Screen tearing(tried 3x buffering and Vsync which helped but didnt solve) -On some games, the screen freezes, I ctrl+alt+del, and the game goes back to working. -Ocasional lag, usually with screen tearing. My machine: OS: Vista ultimate 32bits (No service pack, which might be the problem but I'm not sure) MB: Intel Extreme Series DP45SG Gfx Card: Geforce gfx 285 Ram: Got 2x2gb DDR3 1333Mhz recognized by the system(there are 2 more that 32 bit vista cant use) HD: 1,5 TB Seagate 7200RPM Power Suply: Corsair 850W I think that's about it. I ran some tests on a friend's PC which have a lower configuration, and the games there ran just fine. Any1 got an idea of what my problem is? :S Edit: Forgot supply :X Thx in advance :) Last edited by Bobss; 08-18-2009 at 08:07 PM. |

Re: Problem with gaming
Hey Bobss and welcome to TSF.
You haven't posted your CPU, could you please do that. Also, can you tell us what games these problems occur in.

Re: Problem with gaming
Oh, my bad!
CPU is Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 As for the games, I've been having problems with: -Prototype(Game freezes) -Fallout 3(Screen tearing and lag after some time of play) -World in Conflict(tearing and...some gfx stuff misplaced, dunno how to say that) -Mirror's Edge(Game freezes) -EE4:Oblivion(Screen tearing a LOT) I think that's it for now, I have yet to test a whole bunch of games in this machine. Thx in advance :) |

Re: Problem with gaming
Ok, it sounds like it may be a heating problem.
Can you please download Everest and SensorsView. Use them to check your temperatures while idle and after about 20 minutes playing or when the problem occurs.

Re: Problem with gaming
Sorry for the delay, I had some major problems and couldn't log
I ran Speedfan and sensorsview, and the results are the following: GPU: At around 64ºC while Idle, reaching up to 85ºC during gameplay CPU: Speedfan says that the CPU is constantly at a ~-40ºC temperature(bug?) HD: ALways at 41ºC Internal temp: ~44ºC, 50 during gameplay That's about it... |

Re: Problem with gaming
Hi again Bobss, thanks for the temperatures.
That 85 Degrees during gameplay is probably the source of all your problems. You should open up your case and clean any dust out of it, especially in and around the CPU and GPU fans. - The best way to clean your case is with a can of compressed air. Your HDD temperature at 41 is borderline overheating as well. What did Everest say your CPU temperature was?

Re: Problem with gaming
Oh. Ok, well, try playing games with the sides of your case off, if you have a pedastal fan, also try pointing that at your computer. See how the graphics card goes heatwise.
Also, can you please post what Everest says the voltages of your PSU are. Include the +12V +5V and +3.3V.
