CoD: WaW Won't Start

My Call of Duty: World at War game won't start. I tried reinstalling with no success. My dad and I have been working on it for two days straight. We downloaded an upgraded driver for the graphics card and adjusted the sound. It's also on the right resolution and we meet the system requirements.

What usually happens when I start the Solo-So-op part of the game up is just goes to a black screen and then closes. When I start the multiplayer part up, it goes black and then the screen gets smaller, still black. Eventually I have to end the program, which takes forever.

Please help.

Is this a legit copy of the game?
