COD4 PC issue

I'm having a PC issue with my COD4.
When I try to load, it goes to the main page and when I try to hit "Join Game" it goes back to my desktop and gives me this error.
I've re-installed and it didnt fix it. I would appreciate any help.

system specs: (if this helps)
XP Pro SP3
Intel Quad Kentsfield processor
Abit IP35 Pro mobo
Nvidia 8800GTS 512 mb (G92)
WD Raptor HD
4GB GSkill ram

Thanks!

Re: COD4 PC issue

Thanks for the reply and welcome.

1. This system more than meets minimum requirements.
2. I've rebooted at least 10 times.
3. No mods installed
4. The only processes I allow to run on boot are my AV and spyware, but neither are scanning. While I do have a wireless network, this PC is hard wired.
5. DirectX10 is for Vista users (right?).
6. I updated these before I posted.
7. I have the latest patch installed.
8. The disk is clean. No scratches.
9. I've re-installed 3 times.
10. This is updated below.

ABIT IP35 Pro LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard
Thermaltake W0106RU 700W
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
EVGA 512-P3-N841-A3 GeForce 8800GTS (G92) 512MB 256-bit
Western Digital Raptor X WD1500AHFD 150GB 10000 RPM SATA 1.5Gb/s
Windows XP Pro SP3

Thanks!

Re: COD4 PC issue

try this fix and see if it could help

go to control panel -> sounds and audio devices
under speaker settings choose advanced -> performance
set the hardware acceleration to BASIC (move the pointer two times to the left)
choose OK and try the game now
I also prefer to run the game on your Built-in Sound card as COD series has issues with PCI sound cards

Re: COD4 PC issue

When you reinstalled before, did you uninstall with Revouninstaller? If using the normal game uninstall option traces of the game can still be left in the registry.

Re: COD4 PC issue

I know that you said you updated the drivers, however, I can only assume that you meant the Video and possibly Sound drivers? From the little that I can read and see, your COD4 only does this when you try to join a Multiplayer session? The error report above is stating that it is a "HungApp", which means it is trying to communicate with something, but failing.

Have you updated the network drivers? Try updating your Ethernet Controller and Motherboard drivers and see if that clears the hang error. Also try turning off your firewalls, as this could be as simple as "not being able to access the internet"....

Keep us posted...

Re: COD4 PC issue

I re-installed one more time, this time editing the registry of all pertinent strings after the uninstall and it seemed to work. If the problem reoccurs, I'll be back to seek your help. I appreciate the replies and many thanks.

I am not quite sure what you mean by that... Could you please elaborate on that a bit more? I guess I am not exactly sure what you have done? to "fix" the issue.

Re: COD4 PC issue

It might have just been coincidence. It might have just fixed itself.
All I did was edit registry evidence, getting rid of all pertinent Call of Duty entries.
