Video card for WoW

Recently I've been having some slow down problems on my computer, which I've boiled down to either a graphics card problem, or a memory problem. I'm going to buy new of both, but I don't know what graphics card to get. Right now I have a Nvidia 256mb eVGA GeForce 7600 GS. The only game I play is WoW which is not very graphically demanding by any means, and my current card used to be able to handle it pretty well until I started having problems (now my framerate is horrible) I would always lag in huge BattleGrounds, big cities and raids though even when it was running fine.

So basically I'm looking for an affordable card that can run WoW on top settings while in the above scenarios that I mentioned.

thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Video card for WoW

What Motherboard and power supply are you using?
Have you checked the temps on the card with Ntune?

If you don't have Ntune installed use GPUz> http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads...-Z_v0.2.8.html

Re: Video card for WoW

I was using a 7600GT until it (literally) exploded. I replaced it with a Radeon 3870 and now WoW looks and runs better than ever. I can even turn on effects like shadows with virtually no drop in speed.

no i haven't checked the temps. I'm not using my desktop at the moment, it's literally in pieces with a bunch of stuff taken out, as i'm in the process of upgrading it.

Re: Video card for WoW

Hello Mwb12285,

I had your exact graphic card, and it burnt out on me within a year with playing WoW all the time.

I replaced it with a Nvidia 260 GTX however i have a great PSU to handle that graphic card.

Can you please list your Power supply unit(PSU).
To do that, open your case and look for the power supply, then write down the Brand, model, and watts.

You want to make sure you get a graphic card that your power supply can handle, that way you don't run into future problems.

A possibility that the fps of WoW is dropping can be from:
-New game updates that increase the graphics(Just turn down your graphics more)
- Programs running while you are playing WoW
- Anti-virus can be doing automatic scans and lagging your comp

Mess around with your graphics options in game and let me know if that fixes your fps.
View terrain distance level is a big graphic hogger in WoW, the more you turn that down, the more your fps increases.

Make sure you dont have any other programs running that hog a lot of your comps memory.

Make sure your anti-virus does not do auto scans
