ff7 pc difficulty

i just got final fantasy VII for my pc and i was pretty damn excited, since i haven't ever gotten the chance to play this but i've heard so many good things about it, and im a fan of the series, so, you know. anyway, the game starts up just fine, but when i try to start a new game, the screen just goes black, no music, sound effects, or images at all. my task manager on this computer says that the game is running, but nothing happens, just the black screen. i have no idea what to do.

Re: ff7 pc difficulty

Hello legato and welcome to TSF,

When you run the game it should be run under software rendering. This game is very old and does not play well with actually using the hardware. You need to justo open the configure.exe and run it in software rendered. I hope this fixes it.

Re: ff7 pc difficulty

This game barely runs under XP in the best cases and likely won't work at all under Vista. Best bet is to acquire an older Windows 98 PC to run it on.

Re: ff7 pc difficulty

Luckily for you, I just installed FF7 on my Vista PC today. You need to download 3 different patches to get it to work, but after those it will work like a charm.

You need the first 3 on that page, and all the ones below it are optional, but they do some pretty cool stuff.

Re: ff7 pc difficulty

The patches generally modify or overwrite the original EXE so a reinstall will undo those patches.

Correct, uninstalling the game would be like taking 2 steps forward then 2 steps back. I would also recommend applying the patch that has the game run in 1280x1024, which is alot better then the 680x340 or whatever it normally runs at :P
