fps drops/freesing in games

Hi all,

i´ve got pretty weird and very annoying problem.Every time i´m playing games (WoW,Red Alert 3,Fallout 3 etc.) i get freesings : i cant do nothing for 3-4 sec, after that the game runs for about 20-30 sec without interrupts(with >30 fps),but than freesing comes again. This is some kind periodical problem.
On the other hand, for example Warcraft 3, runs perfectly, without lags.
I´ve already updated BIOS and Catalyst, but the problem still remains.
my system specs:
Vista 32 bit
AMD X2 6000+
Sapphires ATI HD 4850
2 Gb RAM Corsair XMS2 6400 C4
ASUS M3A78 EMH
Chieftec PSU 500W
I build pc on my own,and didnt adjust anything at RAM/Graphic card

I will really appreciate any help

Re: fps drops/freesing in games

hello and welcome to TSF

first of all your PSU is low quality and too weak to handle your system
you need something like this

Corsair 650 W
100$
80$ after rebate
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...05&Tpk=Corsair 650 W

I suggest you get that PSU before it damages any PC parts

i´ve already wondered why "Case fan only"-Cable doesnt work any more

Re: fps drops/freesing in games

you can try as well:
go to amd.com and download the amd dual core optimizer
also download SIW from my sig
under hardware choose sensors and check the temps
then play a game for about 20 mins or before the game's crashes or when the lag occurs minimize the game and recheck the temps again

but I strongly recommend to get that PSU I suggested

Re: fps drops/freesing in games

it seems that the video card is heating a bit, 82C makes a bit of lag
download Rivatuner from my sig and adjust the video card fan speed to 80%

Re: fps drops/freesing in games

did you try to increase the fan speed in Rivatuner?
if increasing the fan speed didn't work,
my suggestion and last resort is to do a full format and install a fresh copy of windows, as the problem doesn't seem a hardware problem and it could be a windows problem

Re: fps drops/freesing in games

Can you uninstall the catalyst Control Center. It doesn't help with games because all you need the display driver. Can you also post your temperatures with Core temp and GPU-Z. USe this to make screen shots.

Start menu
type "snipping tool"
use that to capture the program at the given time
Post temps while in game (quickly alt tab out) and when your computer is idling

Core Temp
GPU-Z

Re: fps drops/freesing in games

You have good temps for your CPU and GPU although your GPU must be loud with fan going at 8000 RPM!What I don't understand is how you are getting 50% CPU usage on idle. I have the same CPU so you must have a ton of programs running in the background. Can you take a screenshot of your msconfig?

Start Menu
type "msconfig"
take a screenshot of the start up tab.
