Random freezing and crash

Hi, I'm new to TSF.
I have a pretty serious problem. A couple of months ago I keep getting random crashes when I play the newer games. I can play most of the older games like TF2, CS, and most steam games, but not source mod games. At first I didn't care because I don't play the newer games but now I want to play more games.
The crash is random. I'm playing in mid game and suddenly it freezes and my screen becomes of color of whatever is the most colored on my screen. Say I'm playing on a map with a lot of grass then my whole screen becomes green

I googled and looked around, and people have somewhat of the same problem and the solution was the fan was dusty so I needed to clean it out, and I did, which it didn't help.

my pc specs
http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/gat...-33178399.html
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 (2.5 GHz) ; RAM installed: 6 GB DDR2 SDRAM ; Hard drive: 640 GB Standard

Thanks for the help.

Hi Lunask, welcome to TSF.

Have you tried these steps yet? They cover most common issues with games.

If you are still experiencing the crashes after that, please download SIW. Select Hardware -> Sensors. Then take a screenshot of that page when the system is idle.
Then start up any game and play it for just a few minutes, Alt + Tab out and take another screenshot of that page. Then post both images back here.

Re: Random freezing and crash

I'm not able to get my hands on any type of equipment for a while. Is there an easier way to fix this? Should I just open my case and get a fan to blow into it?

Re: Random freezing and crash

I have to agree with Dai on this one, You need at least a 550w quality PSU to run the computer and you should really be running a Corsair 750w or at least a Corsair 650w

Corsair 650w
$100
after rebate $80
