Random Frame Drop
Alright, just got a new laptop with Vista on it, usually i'm a hardcore xp man but the laptop was SOOO nice, anyway me and a few friends find out a new Call Of Duty 2 League is starting up so I reinstall the game to get back into it. Everything goes fine until I start playing when all of a sudden I drop to around 20 fps from 125. Thinking graphical problem I quickly endeavor to lower all textures and put all settings at there very lowest. All is well until BAM it happens again. Anyway there does not seem to be a correlation between where I am, what I see, and what I'm doing and having this random frame drop. It last for around 30 seconds and then goes back up to 60 and then to 125. I have already updated my drivers and have tried running the game in compatability mode to xp sp2.

Re: Random Frame Drop
hello and welcome to TSF
my first suspect here is overheating download SIW from my sig and open it under hardware choose "sensors" check the temps (CPU, GPU, HDD, System) play a game and when the lag starts minimize it and recheck the temps again post both states here (when idle and when under stress)

Re: Random Frame Drop
Hello Menthro, Welcome to TSF.
Please follow RockmasteR's post and what is your internet connection speed? Test your speed with speedtest.net with the closest available server. I would have to go with RockmasteR's thought os the laptop overheating as laptops were never designed to stay cool on their own. A laptop cooler would be a good start and probably the fix for your problem. Re: Random Frame Drop
If it is a new laptop, there is no dust and the fans should be working properly, however my dell inspiron 1720 with Vista will overheat from just being on for 30 minutes.
Especially if i play a game. I recommend testing the temps with SIW, as RockMasteR suggested, test connection speed as Mcninjaguy suggested, and the best thing to probably do which i agree with Mcninjaguy is to buy a Laptop Cooler. I need to get one myself, having my laptop on my lap while its overheating burns my thighs! =) |
