Re: Graphical pop-ups in games

Reboot again, this time into normal mode, and try to install the driver. You don't need to use the F8 menu, just reboot normally.

Re: Graphical pop-ups in games

ok did that, installed drivers but when I clicked on setup for the older v185 drivers (just to check) it said that those drivers (185) are older than my current one (186). But when I click Run it still says I have 185 there.... Plus my monitor keeps going on and off, any way to fix that??

Re: Graphical pop-ups in games

OK, it's saying that 186 installed ok, but there's a problem with the newer driver. Uninstall it again in Add/Remove Programs, reboot and reinstall the old 185 driver to get things back to normal. I've never seen a driver update cause the monitor to turn on and off.

Just to confirm, are you using 32bit Vista and is your graphics card a GeForce 9800? If so, this is the correct driver. I've got the XP version installed on my computer, updated from 185 a couple of weeks ago.

Re: Graphical pop-ups in games

Graphical artifacts are usually caused by faulty/incorrect drivers, overheating or a weak PSU. Once you install 185 and get back to having a monitor that's not turning off and on, we can look at the driver situation again.

Re: Graphical pop-ups in games

***? The on/off thing continues even when Ive installed 185..

I guess I'll have to send the monitor to the manufacturer or smth.. plus my monitor used to have a small touchscreen display which can be used to tuen it on/off, now that's not working either

Do you think I can get my money back for the monitor...? Its barely 3-4 months old so the warranty is still OK

Install the 185.85 drivers angain for now. As long as they're stable lets stick with that.

What is your PSU's make and model?

Is it still under warranty? If so, you should use it and take the computer to the official service.

Re: Graphical pop-ups in games

So now my PC/monitor is OK again. I launched Call of Juarez Bound in Bood again but I still have the popup problems, even though the game itself runs well (50 FPS steady) with everything maxed out and max res 1900x1200).

However I read about something called texture loading - apparently GTA IV for Xbox 360 has it because the 360 isn't powerful enough. Though the best PCs can run GTA IV without much texture loading (they're stronger than the 360).

But since my PC runs the game very well maxed out it should be able to run it witout much texture loading as well, right? Or is the texture loading "supposed" to happen?

Hope you understand what I mean...

Re: Graphical pop-ups in games

Your graphics card does not have 1.7 gb of vram. That is the total virtual ram available to it. You should have either 512mb or 1gb of Vram.

The texture popping may be becasue you haven't set the view distance to all the way it can go.

Re: Graphical pop-ups in games

OK, how can I set the view distance? That's not an option in the game's video settings but maybe I can use another tool?

Re: Graphical pop-ups in games

No it all depends on if the game allow s the option. Using an extra tool is a no-no.
