[SOLVED] Can't patch/update/play games anymore?
Well, I have tried downloading multiple mmorpg games, and the same thing happens after everytime. I download them, install them, start them, then they freeze and cant update, so I cant play it. I have tried turing off virus protection/firewall, adding it to trusted list, reinstalling them. I have comcast with a cable modem, and they said that all ports should be opened, i don't know maybe there is a way to check this? The ONLY thing i can think of was my os got screwed up, so i reinstalled it, without formating a while ago. Could that screw anything up? Please, I need help, I can't play any games :(

When you say I reinstalled it without formatting do you refer to a repair install?

So then just to verify you had this problem and tried resolving it by booting from disk and installing XP but just to find out that after you still have the same problem.

Re: Can't patch/update/play games anymore?
My question was actually directed to your not being able to play games problem if that existed before and after the whole install thing.

Re: Can't patch/update/play games anymore?
Well, a few internet related things... DAP does not work at all... all my ports dont seem to respond.. some programs have problem accessing the internet...
Im wondering if it might be my internet. I did a port check.. i scanned ports 1-499 and all of them said not responding... Last edited by kokainkoala; 07-03-2009 at 07:43 PM. |

Re: Can't patch/update/play games anymore?
Do you know what ports you should have opened for these particular games?

Re: Can't patch/update/play games anymore?
I am friends with Kokain and have been following his problems, he has a fast internet connection but after he download and installs the games we are trying to play the patcher either loads and crashes, 1. without warning 2. two with and internet connectivity error 3. it never loads at all. it seems that the game is not the problem though because after he manually patches there is still the same issue. my initial thought was his firewall, likewise he has nortan, but this didnt seem to be the issue. se are still perplexed by this problem he claims the lauchers are failing because of ports yet i do not have those port opened to my computer and i seem to have no problems.
-Thank you for your time |

Re: Can't patch/update/play games anymore?
Well for starters you can run a scan here make sure you use IE and when you are prompted about the certificate error click on "continue to this website not recommended"
https://www.hackerwhacker.com/quickscan.php to see if those are opened. A similar scan can be ran here http://grc.com as well.

Re: Can't patch/update/play games anymore?
Well yea, but when I scan the ports, none of them respond... so it has to have somthing to do with my internet.. because other programs (dap for example) does not work because it can not correctly gain access to the internet.

Re: Can't patch/update/play games anymore?
Since it cannot hurt try resetting your TCP/IP stack and winsock as well.
Inside a command prompt with admin rights type the following two commands hitting enter after each one of them. Note the > symbol represents a space. netsh>i>i>r>r netsh>w>r

Re: Can't patch/update/play games anymore?
Hello Folks
,Are you using a Router? Did Comcast provide you with a Cable Modem/Wireless Router? If so you could try bypassing the routers firewall, all together. This is done by setting the PC you are gaming with, on the DMZ. You can access the router by opening IE and typing the IP Address on the bottom of the Router in your IE address bar. Comcast's router passwords are usually 1234. Since you have Norton Internet Security, your computer will still be protected. Sven2157

Do any of the games/programs you are trying to use need Java to run?
