i recently put a computer together and put my best gfx card in it which is a little out dated now but anyway its an Nvidia 8800GT Alpha Dog Edition XFX and i was looking forward get getting some awesome performance on a new system however whenever i run a game on reccommended graphics (High/Very High) it will run for about 5 maybe 10minutes and then the monitor will go black as if its gone to sleep and theres no input from the card what so ever. The only thing i can do then is restart the system, as well as this the sound starts to loop and whatever sound is heard during the crash is repeated until i drain the power. Ive checked all my drivers and according to windows they are all up-to-date and work fine, ive checked tempuratures and my CPU runs at about 40c in-game and my GPU runs about about 50-70c its never gone passed 70c so i dont think its struggle with the heat and it isnt my RAM as ive used the RAM in other systems and it works fine. Im stumped as to what is causing the problem =( please help! i wanna play games again
My Specs are: Intel Core2 Quad@3.0GHz Asus P5Q Deluxe MB 3.0GHz Kingston RAM Nvidia GeForce 8800GT Alpha Dog Edition XFX Corsair TX650Watt PSU Btw ive tried my old ATI X1300 gfx card and that runs fine apart from the struggle in FPS, but other than that theres no crashes with my old card just my 8800GT. |

Re: Problem with gfx card!!
You could try changing back to a previous driver version for your video card. The new driver version 186.18(i think thats what it is) ran like crap on my system. So I changed them back to what I had before. Before I did that, I had the same exact problem you do.

Re: Problem with gfx card!!
Well, it says my current driver version is 8.15.11.8581. I'm not so informed about driver versions. Usually I just update to the latest but they sucked.

Re: Problem with gfx card!!
70C is not overheating for a graphics card. You probably don't want to go over 75C but graphic cards can take a lot higher temperatures than a CPU.
I tried the newer 186.18 drivers too and they are extremely buggy. You should be using the 185.85 driver. |

Re: Problem with gfx card!!
Mcninjaguy, what bugs have you noticed with the 186.18 driver? I'm using it in XP and Win7 with an 8800GT, and all my games run ok, not much difference to the previous driver.
chap1400, check the PSU voltages in BIOS and during fullscreen gameplay. Have you overclocked the CPU, RAM or graphics card?

Re: Problem with gfx card!!
Well since my graphics card is overclock and the fan settings and when the fan revs up at a desired temperature is changed. It may have to do with that.
With my old crapy nvidia mortherboard, The memory on the graphics would not be able to be accessed. With my new motherboard the only thing wrong is that it doesn't like the graphics card to go over 70C. My card only goes o around 75C max and usually stays around 72C. It will just freeze. The older graphics card driver seems very stable to me. I haven't had problems with my graphics card lately with the 185.85 driver. I may have to do more testing The one reason was that I was run a stability test using Furmark and as soon as it hit 70C my computer froze. It was fine when I ran it under 185.85. |

Re: Problem with gfx card!!
Yeah your system should run on a 650W Corsair.
Could you please download Everest from here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html And SensorsView from here: http://www.stvsoft.com/SensorsViewPro21Setup.exe Use them to check your PSU voltages and post them back here.
