FFXI FPS problems.

These FPS problems started about a week ago when I got my new monitor (Acer X233H) When I play Final Fantasy XI, it'll run fine at about 29FPS, then out of no where it'll go to 3 or 4 FPS for about 30 seconds then revert back.

I did a clean reinstall of Vista to see if it would fix it, but it was a no go. I have an Apollo Radeon HD 4600 series card.

Help is much appreciated.

Re: FFXI FPS problems.

That would be your PSU as it low quality and its most likely starting to fail now.

You should be running this

Corsair 650w (same price as Corsair 550w)
$100
after rebate $80
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005

This should fix it instantly

I'll give a quick comparison of the Corsair 550w to the BFG 550w PSU

BFG
http://www.bfgtech.com/bfgr550wgspsu.aspx

Corsair
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139004

BFG 550w
- 80%+ efficiency
- temperature rated at 25C for stability
- 2 x 12v rails at 18amps each = 36amps (doesn't add up perfectly like that usually)

Corsair 550w
- 80% + efficiency
- temperature rated at 50C for stability
- one 12v rail @ 41amps

Those are some of the main things to look at

Re: FFXI FPS problems.

Really? I just assembled this PC maybe a month ago, if not sooner.
Brand new parts, all off of Newegg.

I should add that I do run Counterstrike Source maxed, and it runs fine.
FFXI is the only game I have FPS problems with.

A low quality PSU is probably the one part that you should never go cheap on.

Re: FFXI FPS problems.

The low quality PSU causes the rest of your system to underclock itself occasionally, resulting in the lag spikes you experience.

A good quality PSU is ESSENTIAL for anyone running a system that they care about.

Low quality PSU's will damage your system over time, eventually causing unfixable damage.
