WOW shutting down laptop
Alrighty, basically WoW has been shutting down my laptop. I'll start playing, play for maybe 10 to 15 minutes, and then Click, hard shut down. Normally i would figure this is a heating problem of some sort but, i played it fine for a year with no slowdown and no shut offs of any kind. Lately i've had some trouble, so i'll explain.
A couple months ago my laptop was getting extremely hot in the spot where the HD is and where the AC adapter plugs in. Eventually my AC adapter quit working and i called dell (Its a dell XPS M1530) to get a replacement. The guy on the phone had me check the BIOS battery health meter thing. When unplugged from the AC adapter, it showed the Battery as Discharging. He said this denoted a bad mobo (battery controller or some such) and i needed it replaced. he sent a guy out, replaced it. At this point the hot to the touch areas ceased. A few days later i checked the battery meter myself and while unplugged, it still said the battery was Discharging. So he sent me a new battery this time. Put the new battery in. It STILL says Discharging while unplugged. Through all of this from the start, i started having massive performance loss in the game as well as the problem previously stated with random restarts after the mobo was replaced. I'm about to install another game to do a little test. But, what could this be? I came here because honestly, I'm hard of hearing and its hard for me to understand dell's tech support and I'm tired of talking to them. I'm trying to figure out if its a wow problem or if something is still wrong with my laptop, in which case end up having to call Dell again anyway :-( . Thanks in advance for the help. |

Re: WOW shutting down laptop
Just tried playing Fallout 3, which is another game that was playing perfect before the aforementioned story, it shut down after a few seconds of playing as well...so its not a WoW problem

Re: WOW shutting down laptop
hello,
could you please post your Laptop's Brand and Model? I think that the Laptop is shutting down due to overheating download SIW from my sig and open it under hardware, select Sensors and check your temps before playing any games (Idle state) open up a game and play for 5 minutes or so and try to minimize it before the Laptop shuts down and recheck your temps again (keep SIW open) report the two temps back

Re: WOW shutting down laptop
Your CPU temps are fine, but your GPU should definitley not be idling at 71 degrees.

Re: WOW shutting down laptop
Your laptop is shutting down due to overheating, just like RockmasteR said. Consider getting a cooling fan but also, when is the last time you have cleaned your laptop? Your vents could be dusty and blocking air flow, similar to what happened with my Acer Aspire 6920G. I cleaned the vents and the temperatures went down around 15-20c.

Re: WOW shutting down laptop
You may want to consider getting this laptop cooler. It has 1 big 200mm fan and can cool a laptop a lot better than a multitude of tiny fans.
Antec Cooling system for notebook computers Model Notebook Cooler 200 - Retail $70 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834997410 Yes it is a little pricey but just have a read of the reviews and they should speak volumes for you. This is the one I want my girlfriend to get for her laptop. |
