Re: Massive slowdown on Oblvion.
Your temperatures look fine, but your voltages are not. Please download Everest and SensorsView (in my signature) and use them to check the temps and voltages - see if they match the ones SIW reports. Specifically, the screenshot you posted has the +12V sitting at 8.58V!! Voltages are allowed to be +/- 5% at most, which means the +12V can be between 11.4V and 12.6V. If your +12V is actually at 8.58V, then you already have a serious problem there, and you cannot wait to replace the PSU.
So, check the temps and voltages reported by Everest and SensorsView, and then also check them in the BIOS (tap Delete while the system is starting, and locate the "PC Health Status" or similar section). Post them all here for us.

that's the newest screenshot, both everest and sensor view, from now on I'll be checking the forum through a laptop. |

Re: Massive slowdown on Oblvion.
Again, all the temps look fine, which is good. Everest reports the same as SIW, but SensorsView reports 11.6V, which is in the acceptable range. Did you check what the BIOS says?

Re: Massive slowdown on Oblvion.
Oh sorry I completely missed the bit about the BIOS, I'll check right now...
My BIOS says my 12+ voltage is sitting at 12.04. Also the temp it says is 21C. |

Re: Massive slowdown on Oblvion.
The Corsair is worth the bang for the buck and you can overclock like mad. The voltages may be ok but you're still underpowered.

Re: Massive slowdown on Oblvion.
What's the minimum wattage I can have? My friend has more or less the same specs as me except he has a dual core and a 4890 1GB, but we has a 650w PSU.
EDIT: Also because the voltages are okay do you still think I could last that month? |

Re: Massive slowdown on Oblvion.
For some reason I can't edit my post :/ anywho, I just found on this: (http://ati.amd.com/products/certifie...ies.html#pstop) website I can use a 425w PSU with that graphics card, that usually accomodates other hardware too I'm sure and I have 75 + more watts, is it really, REALLY neccessary to change my PSU, just search 425W on that site loads of results come up.

Re: Massive slowdown on Oblvion.
If you use a PSU calculator you need to add another 50% for safety and capacitor aging.
-30% capacitor aging -20% safety So if you get around 500watts or so you'll need a 750w PSU. Its like if you had a really small heart but you were 6'4". The body would need lots of blood everywhere but the heart just wouldn't be able to keep up and that person would die young.

Re: Massive slowdown on Oblvion.
Click on "Power Supply Information" in my signature. Excellent information there, but I doubt you'll bother reading it. Near the bottom of the thread, there's a link to a PSU calc. Go there and enter your specs (don't leave anything out), and select 25% for capacitor aging. Once the result is calculated, add 30% to the total (multiply by 1.3). That will give you a base idea of about what you should be using at minimum. However, keep in mind that PSU calcs always under-calculate.
You should be okay to wait a month to get your new PSU, but I definitely would not wait any longer, and I would do my best to shorten that wait time if possible. You're getting conflicting readings, so you can't be sure which ones are correct. Where are you at with the Oblivion lag? Did you install the latest patches? Did you try any of the other things suggested above? Please be clear, so we know what has and hasn't been done, because we base our advice on previous steps.

Re: Massive slowdown on Oblvion.
I have installed the patches, I tried it with everything on lowest. So it can't be the settings. I updated my drivers. I'm at a loss for what to do. I'm gueesing there MAY be a problem with the ini, because I'm not sure if I mnessed with it before getting my new graphics card.
I have used that PSU calultor several times, I got 247w for my recommended wattage and this was with full capicitator aging and then I added 30% and I got 321w. So surely I have more than enough. I have used several different ones. ASUStek's one, this one ( http://web.aanet.com.au/~SnooP/psucalc.php ) ad a few others I can' find at this point in time. Re: Massive slowdown on Oblvion.
PSU calculators ALWAYS underestimate what will be needed for your system. - The PSU calc said that you only need 321 Watts, but I think, if you used a 321 Watt PSU, you would be lucky if your system even started up. I wouldn't use PSU calc's for that very reason - they underestimate what you actually need.

Re: Massive slowdown on Oblvion.
You're obviously not going to believe us until your PSU kills your system. So I'm not going to say anything more about it. Please, keep your 500W - it's the only way you're going to learn.
Did you try any of my other suggestions, such as disabling background processes, disabling internet/network connection, etc?

Re: Massive slowdown on Oblvion.
I am getting a new PSU, as I don't want to risk it. I'm just being pedantic. Would 650w be okay for my system do you believe? I have tried disabling background processes to no end.

Re: Massive slowdown on Oblvion.
As I said above, if you click on "Power Supply Information" in my signature, you'll be taken to a thread with a lot of interesting and eye-opening information. That thread will also have a listed of recommended PSU's for different classes of computer. Your computer would fit in the "High-End Power Gaming Class" or "UBER Ultimate Professional Gaming Class". The minimum PSU I would get for your system is a 750W. However, I would like to see it running on at least an 850W. If you want reassurance that we follow our own advice, take a look at "My System" on the left of this post. (The PSU calc gives me a result of 618W, which is 803W including the 30%.)
Back to the lag: Just checking - you turned off your internet/network as well? Is there any particular pattern to the lag you're getting? For example, does it happen only in outside areas, or only when the sun is visible, or only when you point in a particular direction, or only when you get into a fight? (Remember to be as clear and precise as possible - the better the info you give us, the better we can help you.) Click on "Common PC Game Issues" in my signature, and follow any steps you haven't done already.

Re: Massive slowdown on Oblvion.
I think the margin of safety you should be going for with a 4870 is a Corsair 750w or higher.

Re: Massive slowdown on Oblvion.
I get lag, the moment any glimpse of gameplay arises. I deleted all of my saves to see if it was just a corrupted save or something but now I can't even make a character because of it. The moment I leave the main menu I get non stop slowdown. I did try internet connection off aswell, yes.

Re: Massive slowdown on Oblvion.
check your specs with SIW and temperatures.. you might wanna change the graphic card cause this seems to be a problem similar to mine

Do you get any problems with other games, or is it just with Oblivion? Do you have access to another video card you can try in your system (perhaps borrow a friend's if you don't own a second)?

Re: Massive slowdown on Oblvion.
A few things you could attempt if you have not already (I didn't see them mentioned in the thread).
- A complete reinstall of the game (first try running it without the patches, then continue patching if necessary). - Rename the oblivion.ini file in your My Documents/My Games/Oblivion folder to oblivion.ini.old. There may be a corrupt setting in it, changing the name will force the game to create a fresh file with default settings upon loading. - Turn down audio hardware acceleration. Go Start -> Run -> Type dxdiag and press Enter. Go to the Sound tab and move the slider back to 'Basic Acceleration'. |
