[SOLVED] Ghostbusters: Music Problems
I got Ghostbusters for PC 2 days ago. After turning down the graphics enough for my PC to remotely play it I noticed that once a battle started the music would pick up tempo (as would be expected if you were about to bust some ghosts) and then just go silent while I wrangled them into the traps.
Then, when the fight was over, the music would resume as I moved into the next task. I've got the game running really smoothly now, but the music is still pondersome to me. At first I thought "Maybe there's no music when you fight ghosts so that you pay attention to the realistic sounds your packs make." But when I would hear the music swell a bit and then cut out, it made me think otherwise. So, here's what I've done so far to make this game play: 1. Updated Graphics Drivers for my card that were released the day before the game came out: This vastly improved the visual quality of the game and let me play on 800x648 smoothly with some extra bells and whistles turned on where before I was running the lowest resolution possible with nothing turned on, and it was still chugging. 2. Set the priority of the game down to low through the task manager, this improved the visual quality further, looks great now. This advice came from techsupport from steam. Now, the only aspect of my computer that doesn't match the system requirements is my graphics card which only has 256 memory and the game requires 512 (but like I said, it's running, I'm not complaining about the graphics). Could that be impacting the music when the action heats up and there is more on the screen? |

Re: Ghostbusters: Music Problems
This could be a technical issue with the game itself where the the video lags too far behind the audio the audio will just cut out. If it runs on your video card I say good for you as most games just need 256mb as the absolute minimum to run.
Do you get this issue with any other games? |

Re: Ghostbusters: Music Problems
I would just keep the graphics low as its a laptop.
I want to know what temperatures your laptop is getting to though CHeck with Coretemp and GPU-Z 10 mins after you start playing Ghostbusters. http://www.filehippo.com/download_gpuz/ http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/ Check your temps when your computer is idle too. |

Re: Ghostbusters: Music Problems
I'll get back to you on that.
:Edit: Actually, I can give you temp readings as I was just playing. It's at 80 C and falling right now. Last edited by gerrtt06; 06-25-2009 at 07:38 PM. |

Re: Ghostbusters: Music Problems
If the video card is getting that hot, it could be a cause for concern, high heat can cause the video card to underclock itself in order to prevent overheating.
Does the issue happen if you start the laptop up, quickly load the game and get into a fight?

Re: Ghostbusters: Music Problems
when you said 80 C?
is that the Video Card temp? or the CPU temp? the video card at 80 is OK but not too good I think the best way to solve this is to get a good cooling pad, playing games on a laptop, especially in the summer time without a cooling pad, is not a good idea

Re: Ghostbusters: Music Problems
That'd be the CPU, it's the number that's reading on core temp. I can't seem to find a video card temperature on either of those tools.
I was actually thinking about a cooling pad once I saw just how high it was getting in there, had always thought about it but never anything past "Hmm, there's a good idea." I'll add it to the list of things I need this month. |

Re: Ghostbusters: Music Problems
Oh wow! If your CPU is running at 80 C then you DEFINITLEY have a problem.
a CPU temp that high is very bad.
