[SOLVED] Widescreen Problem[moved from o/hardware

Hello,

I have a Samssung 2243NW Widescreen monitor and i have a very unusual problem.
One day it started showing certain things as a square monitor.
Example:When i start up it shows the POST info like this | ***aaaaa*** |
Everything is centered into the middle of the screen.
Also while using vista it appears normally over the whole screen.
Then,if i start a game that requires a bit more resources it again appears as a square centered on the screen.
What happened and how can i fix this problem?

Re: Widescreen Problem[moved from o/hardware

That's a very odd problem... I have not heard one like that before.

Anyway, try the steps outlined in this thread:

http://www.techsupportforum.com/gaming-forum/pc-gaming-support/120411-important-please-follow-these-steps-before-posting.html

If those don't solve the problem, post back with your system specs and we shall endeavour to assist.

Re: Widescreen Problem[moved from o/hardware

did you try to reduce the refresh rate of your monitor?
Control Panel -> personalization -> Display settings -> advanced Settings -> monitor -> choose a lower refresh rate if possible (like 60 hertz)

Re: Widescreen Problem[moved from o/hardware

Hey,
No it's definetly not the games as you can see from the pictures in the archive i posted.
I think it's the monitor, but i'm not sure what to do...making the screen wider from the settings will ruin my OS view..since it now shows the image right.
The monitor has an auto adjustment button which is useless meaning the monitor things that's the right way.
Desktop.rar
LE:the screenshots are both edited in paint to show you how it looks.
the game is a screenshot i made and edited in paint because it only showed the square image when i took the screenshot.
the BIOS image is off the internet.
also i noticed in some games, with the help of a few tweaks i can make it show on the whole screen..for example by ticking a "widescreen" box or choosing a widescreen resolution.or sometimes it works if i choose a square monitor resolution.
problem is some games don't have widescreen resolutions..the monitor used to solve that by stretching the image effectively to fill the screen.

If there is an aspect ratio option in the monitor's menu try changing it to 16:9.

Re: Widescreen Problem[moved from o/hardware

Thanks i solved it,
I had to play with the buttons a little since the option was not in the menu.
I had to press the down arrow button to choose from widescreen and normal.
I didn't test it yet but i suppose it will work now.
Thanks a bunch.
