flightsim frame rate problem

All worked fine, then a problem as follows:
Frame stutter? occurs as frame rate drops from say 30 fps to 10. This occurs every few seconds. Any suggestions where to look for this. I am using a GeForce 7900GS graphics card. It is evident on both flightsim programmes FS9 and FSX, I therefore suspect that it is a hardware problem.Any suggestions will be most welcome.

TURN DOWN YOUR GRAPHIC SETTINGS!

You are overloading the living crap out of that card. The "stutter" occurs when the system is trying to display too much; thus the drop in FPS. Between the processor and video card, the two can't handle the load you have set.

Try this....

Go into settings and in the middle window of FSX, click on the "Custom" button. Set everything to "LOW". Fly for a bit. If the problem is gone, there you go! If not report back here....

If it IS gone, then slowly ONE BY ONE turn your settings back up, A LITTLE AT A TIME! When it starts to "stutter" again, turn something back down. On lower end Video Cards, you sometimes (almost always) have to choose between quality or quantity.

So... Do you prefer a smooth graphics flight? Or more realistic/detailed scenery?

3 years ago a 7900GT was still a top notch graphics card but now current GTX 260's and ATI 4850's are around 4 times faster than your current card. Games that were coming out just a couple years ago could barely keep up with the hardware now its the opposite where hardware can far surpass what a game needs to play it.

Oh I don't know about that, wait 'til Crysis 2 comes out!

But yeah, basically, turn down the graphics settings and see how you go.

Good luck.
