Slight Problem With AoEII

Hi.

I installed Age of Empires II and the expansion pack. I started up the game, it worked normally until I pressed the chat button. The game crashed and gave me an error report dialog. I then tried re-installing with my second copy (I play LAN) and I got the same thing, which means the problem is not related to corrupted discs.

I have an ATI Radeon 3850 Graphics card with the latest drivers (I think).

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this?

EDIT: I rolled back my video card driver and it works fine... But I now have a less-recent driver... So... How can I stay up to date and keep everything working?

Hi,

Have you tried using the newer drivers and running the game in Compatibility Mode? To find compatibility options, right-click on the game shortcut, select Properties, and then select the Compatibility tab.

I did try that, you mean the compatibility settings that are like 640x400, 256 colors and stuff like that, right? Because when I tried that, it didn't work either.

No not the 640 x 480 and runnig it in 256 colors

Run it as administrator and XP SP2

Also try Compatibility Mode for earlier operating systems, like Windows 2000 or Windows 98.
