Cry Star Wars KOTOR1 cut scene freeze problem

Hi,

I've been playing the PC version of Knights of the Old Republic (the original) on my Vista laptop, and it's been running fine up until the Star Forge cutscenes. After General Dodonna and the Jedi master with her realize Bastilla is using her Battle Meditation, there is a cutscene that starts up, but it freezes immediately and the game crashes.

When I click the "more details" drop-down option on the End-Task window that pops up every time, it says this:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: swkotor.exe
Application Version: 1.0.3.0
Application Timestamp: 402bc2d9
Fault Module Name: binkw32.dll

Is there any way for me to fix this problem? I'd really like to finish the game... Let me know if you need more details.

Thanks.

hello and welcome to TSF,
download SIW from my sig, under hardware choose "sensor" check the temps and open the game, run it for a while and minimize it (alet + ESC) before the game freezes and recheck the temps

Re: Star Wars KOTOR1 cut scene freeze problem

I played for about an hour (started from an old autosave) up to the point where the game freezes.

This is the readout SIW gives me:

ACPI
-- Temperature
----THM 49C (value) 39C (min) 50C (max)

Intel Pentium
-- Temperature
-----Core #0 50C 40C 50C
----- Core #1 50C 40C 50C

WDC WD25 00BEVS-75UST
-- Temperature
-----HDD 37C 33C 37C

It looks to me as if the computer gets very hot right before freezing the game, though I'd have to just start right before the freeze usually occurs to see if the temperatures are the same then.

Are you running daemon tools in the background?

Re: Star Wars KOTOR1 cut scene freeze problem

I have no idea what "daemon tools" are, so if they're something that's downloadable, I probably don't have them.

Also, I did check link recommended by Hadyn (sorry if that's misspelled), and those posts don't seem to apply to my problem at all.
