EEK! Good Computer for Gaming???

iHi all,i'm not so computer savvy and was wondering if you guys could tell me if these systems i've been looking at can handle big games like Empire:Total War or large maps on Civilization.

First,

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....egories&ks=960

Second,

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1218068107386

The dude at best buy said gateway kills HP in gaming, but i don't know...
Recommend me some good gaming computers if you want! Thanks

Re: Good Computer for Gaming???

Gateway seems promising. HP computers usually never let you overclock in the BIOS.

Re: Good Computer for Gaming???

First, do not place your trust in the Best Buy guy. If you must buy a PC, to a local PC shop and get some prices.
Prebuilt PC's tend to use low quality hardware and are not upgrade friendly. Basically, what you buy is what you'll have.
Reputable custom builders will use quality parts and can build the PC to suit your specific needs with and it will be upgradeable.
Have you considered building your own?
If I absolutely positively HAD to purchase a prebuilt PC it would be a Dell.

Re: Good Computer for Gaming???

I agree with Tyree about Custom PCs but not about DELL!!
you really need an advice?
not a single prebuilt PCs are good, even XPS or Alienware, imho, why?
- Too expensive
- Weak Power Supplies
and not so well hardware parts

as for the 2 PCs you are thinking of:
the HP have a Geforce 9100 (integrated) very bad for gaming
and the price is not that good
and the Gateway, did not show what the Video Card is!!
bad bad bad
you really want to play games? Then it's not about the CPU, it's about the GPU (video Card)
the CPU plays a good part but not like the Video Card
so go on and build your own PC, it'll be better, and if you need any help picking the parts and building it, we can help

I've used Dell computers for gaming, so I would go with Dell.

Doesn't dell own alienware?I went on Dell's site and there was alienware ads in the gaming section...I don't think a competitor would let a competitor advertise on their site.

I wouldn't go with Dell or Alienware either. You can make a better PC than them for 25% less.

If you won't build one, get a dell XPS 420 or something. Or get one of the ones you saw and upgrade the graphics card.

Settings can be changed on Dell computers in the BIOS screen, at least on mine.

Re: Good Computer for Gaming???

I would never tell someone to get a dell right away. Sure Dells are cheap but they can't really be upgraded and to get the most out of a computer they should be upgradable.

Re: Good Computer for Gaming???

When you get an alienware, you pay for bragging rights for people who don't know better xD.
They have nice cases thou....but you can buy better.
Lol, anyone ever seen the acer predator...talk about overpriced and spending money on stuff you don't need...

Re: Good Computer for Gaming???

Never go prebuilt, expensive and low quality. If you have some money to spend check out www.digitalstormonline.com. Great comps, but pricey because of the quality, and they overclock for you and are very stable. Also check out http://www.ibuypower.com/ for some cheaper base computers, but still better than anything you will find at best buy. Hope this helped

Re: Good Computer for Gaming???

those two sites are horrible....high end computers with low end parts, besides 75% people say the computer doesn't even work when it comes in the mail.
Threadstarter just build a comp I have a build some guy named oldjoe recommended to me, we have a section for building a computer.

Build your computer, you won't regret getting a fast custom computer that has quality parts for cheaper than a pre-built one
