Driver error with Beavis & Butthead: Virtual Stupidity

I'm trying to run the 1996 game Beavis and Butthead: Virtual Stupidity, but I can't get it to work. At first when I launched the .exe file, the sound would play, but the video would not, and it told me I needed a divx encoder. I've since tried two different divx encoders, but now I get an error message saying:

MCI ERROR
There is a problem with the device driver. Check with the device manufacturer about obtaining a new driver.

I've tried launching it in different compatibility modes (95, 98, 2000), but I get the same problem. My soundcard is the Reatlek AC97 Audio, and the driver is ALCXWDM.SYS, version 5.10.0000.6160. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Here's a tutorial to run it.

Re: Driver error with Beavis & Butthead: Virtual Stupidity

I tried that, followed the steps correctly, but it tells me that it can't be run in DOS mode. Would that be because it was made for Windows 95?

Re: Driver error with Beavis & Butthead: Virtual Stupidity

I installed default version of the pack, but still no luck. Do I need to configure it specifically for the program, or something to that effect?

The codecs automatically come into affect.

Under the compatibility run it as administrator too with Win 95

Re: Driver error with Beavis & Butthead: Virtual Stupidity

Tried it in XP and in DOSBox, still the same problem.

The weird thing is, the mini-games, which can be accessed separately, work in XP without changing their compatibility to Windows 95, but the core game file is still giving me these codec issues.

Re: Driver error with Beavis & Butthead: Virtual Stupidity

are you running the game on a dedicated video card (PCIe or AGP) or on an IGP (intel)
if you are running the game on a dedicated video card try to run the game on your integrated graphic card (Intel)
