HL2.exe Error

Hi, I have an unfixable error with this. When I tried to load Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2: Lost Coast, it just froze. When I "Task Ended" it, I got the error. Yes, it is only those two. My other games works perfectly. What seems to be the problem?

Hi GoSuNi.
Have you followed the steps listed here?
If so, please list your full system specs.
Also, are you using a 32bit OS or 64bit? Lastly, at what point are the games freezing? Do you manage to get to the Loading... screen?

Re: HL2.exe Error

Please do what Tiber Septim asked.

Do the other games on Steam work fine?
I would run steam.exe as administrator.

find steam.exe in your steam folder
right click on it
properties
compatibility (tab)
run as administrator.

Re: HL2.exe Error

I am using a Windows Vista: Home Edition 32-bit

Processor: Intel Pentium Dual-Core E2180
Motherboard: Asus MS1C86R71605424
GPU: PNY Nvidia 9800GT
RAM: 3GB
Hard Drive: 500GB

When I double click on Half-Life 2 or Half Life 2: Lost Coast, I get a black screen with a loading mouse symbol in the middle. It just froze there. There was no loading screen or a Valve Logo, it just froze immediately.

Yes, I do have other games in Steam (20+ in Steam). I ran as adminstrator just like you told me to and it did nothing.

Re: HL2.exe Error

I assume you installed the latest DirectX 9.0c?

Open up Steam and go to the 'My Games' tab. Right click on HL2 and select 'Properties'.
Click 'Set Launch Options...'.
Type -sw and press 'Ok', then try running the game.
This will force the game to run in windowed mode. I have heard that some Steam games had trouble running fullscreen in Vista.
