new mouse or new mousemat?

OK so at the moment, I can only afford either a new mouse, or a new mousemat for gaming. ATM, I have a crappy £10 PCLINE mouse and a crappy £7.50 mat. I have 2 choices: I can either buy this:
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...tml?RAZ-EXREST
OR this:
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...e.html?NOV-OSC

Which one would be better for gaming? i.e. Which one would make it quicker and easier for me to aim?

Re: new mouse or new mousemat?

The gaming mouse wins by a mile. The mat is far less important in gaming than the mouse itself. Personally i recommend the Logitech G5 mouse.

Re: new mouse or new mousemat?

If I was to go higher, I would probably get this:
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...tml?RAZ-COPBLU

as lots of people have said it's better than the G5. However, around £20 is my limit, especially as I'm getting a new GTX 260. TBH I'm glad the mouse would be better, the one I've got is too small. It's the equivalent to this:
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...tml?NOV-BLKMS#

Also, that oscar one has got up to 3200 DPI, which is great :D

Do you personally think it will be worth the £20 for this mouse? All I do on the PC is game in COD 5 and TF2, I would really like a smooth, precise aiming motion.

Re: new mouse or new mousemat?

The oscar mouse looks like great value, especially for 3200dpi. To be honest i would go for that.

Re: new mouse or new mousemat?

Have you ever moved from a crappy mouse to one like that? How easier did it make it to aim etc?

Also, do you think that oscar looks comfortable dimension and style wise?

Re: new mouse or new mousemat?

I would suggest the G5 Logitech gaming mouse as it uses a laser instead of optical.
but with 3200 dpi and for that cheap of price you have to ask if the quality is there.

Re: new mouse or new mousemat?

Yeah, but honestly I can't afford it. I have just enough for the GPU and PSU I'm getting, and I've managed to save up £20. Besides, people have gave it good comments:

"Bought this mouse as a replacement for my other gaming mouse, and i must say, it is absolutely fantastic. Very comfortable, easy weight alteration and high DPI. Would recommend this to anyone, for the money its great!!"
"Bought this mouse thinking it would be good and turned out way better. Bought a great Razor mat from here too, they work excellent together.Goes up to 3200DPI :)Great mouse."

Both rated 5*

Plus it doesn't look cheap, and looks comfortable:

[edit]
Also, what difference would having a laser mouse rather than an optical one make?

Re: new mouse or new mousemat?

I think a laser mouse can be more sensitive and you can use any surface just fine with it.S optical might have problems with reflective mousepads.

Re: new mouse or new mousemat?

What's a reflective mousepad? ATM I've got a cheap one that's woven. And if I get another, I'll likely get this one:
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...html?RAZ-GOLSS
which is also woven (but very finely). Will optical work with those?

If so I'll probably get optical because lots of people online have said they can't really tell the difference between the two.

[edit]
OK, would anyone recommend this over the oscar mouse?
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...html?RAZ-SALMO

Here is a review of it:
YouTube - Razer Salmosa Gaming Mouse

[edit]
Actually, I don't think I'll get the samosa. It's very small and I don't use the fingertip grip. Plus people have had problems with the buttons squeaking.

Re: new mouse or new mousemat?

I had a optical mouse and it didn't work on my reflective mousemat but i got a laser mouse (G5) and it worked fine. But i think if your surface is not shiny optical should work just fine.

Re: new mouse or new mousemat?

Since you have a woven mousepad you should be fine jrockpunk1.

The mousepad material really makes a difference with optical.
I mean with my G9 mouse I can control mouse with just my finger over the laser with some difficulty.

Really? Only thing is, I've heard lots more about the MX. There have been reviews etc, whereas there aren't any for the X7. Where do you base this off? Links?

I had the MX518 it wasn't that good. I would've preffered a higher DPI mouse myself.

Re: new mouse or new mousemat?

Yeah. Thing is, it's not the official version; It's a copy version by novatech. Also, it doesn't really go into much detail, whether there are pads on the bottom for smoothness etc. And there is only one picture. Plus, hardly anyones commented on it when I've googled. I think I'll go with the MX, simply because it's:
a) By Logitech and not a computer company like novatech.
b) more well known and reviewed.
c) got more info on it, and pictures.

The x7 may be better, but I would rather go with a more reviewed, popular card.

[edit]
Ah, I was tired. I didn't see that you have had the MX. Would you mind telling me exactly what was wrong with it? I still don't fully understand dpi either, the higher the DPI the faster the mouse moves across the screen or what?

Re: new mouse or new mousemat?

The higher the Dpi the faster the mouse moves the cursor.

The pads on the bottom of the MX518 aren't all that great. They kind of stick easy. I did go from a MX518 to a logitech G9 mouse and it was totally worth it.

I would say go with the gaming grade mice by logitech.

Logitech G5 7 Buttons 1 x Wheel USB Laser 2000 dpi Mouse
$45

The gaming mice from logitech are the best option you can get from them.

I can't afford that. So it's either the X7 or MX518. Do you REALLY recommend the X7? Do you even know what it will be like?
