All my games give me an error.
Hello, I've been having a problem with all my games. Right now I've been playing Diablo 1&2 and The Witcher.
Every hour or so my game ends and brings me right to the desktop. It gives me "Game has encountered a problem and has to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" In the "to see what data this error report contains" when it happend during the witcher I got - Code: 0xc0000005 flags: 0x00000000 record: 0x0000000000000000 address: 0x00000000007e9542 I have read !---IMPORTANT: Please Follow These Steps Before Posting---! and it is still happening. My specs are Motherboard: Acer F690GVM CPU Info: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+ CPU Speed: 2587.5 MHz Windows: Windows XP5.1 (Build 2600) Service Pack 3 Memory (RAM): 2048 MB Sound card: Realtek HD Audio output Display Adapters: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT | NetMeeting driver | RDPDD Chained DD I'm not great at computers I tried to follow it all the best I could. Thank you for your help. Edit: My friend thinks my computer is overheating. I have it in a wide open area and the vent on the side is blowing cold air on my. The fan is running. When I touch the back of my case it's really warm though. Could this be the problem or is it normal for the back to be warm. If it is a problem what can I do to fix it. Re: All my games give me an error.
Hi Cantiremix, welcome to TSF.
Please download GPU-Z and CoreTemp (in my signature). Run both when the system is idle and make note of the temps. Then run the Witcher for just a few minutes, quit out and check the temps again. Please post both sets of figures back here. In the meantime, make sure the system is free from dust. You can use a can of compressed air to clear it out. |

Re: All my games give me an error.
Those temps are decent.
You should run rivatuner and up the fan speed to at least 60% http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=163 Do you have the AMD dual Core optimizer installed? http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/dyna...42f&ItemID=153 I think you'll need to disable DEP (data execution prevention) Open a command prompt 1. Navigate to "All Programs" and "Accessories" 2. Right-click on the icon "Command Prompt" 3. Click "Properties" tab and in the "Shortcuts" where you normally are, click "Advanced" 4. Check "Run as Administrator" and confirm with 'OK' 5. Now that you have administrator rights on the CMD can be applied afterwards. 6. Navigate to "All Programs" and "Accessories" 7. Click on "Command Prompt" 8. Paste this to later in the prompt window: Quote:
10. The message "Success" appears. 11. Restart to finalize your work. The function is disabled DEP. 12. If you change your mind and you want to re-enable DEP enough to proceed in the same manner, but by sticking this in the prompt window: Quote:

Re: All my games give me an error.
I downloaded RivaTuner and the AMD dual Core optimizer.
After I go through the set up for the amd do I need to do anything else. Or will it run by itself? For RivaTuner it said said that I have an unsupported driver and should upgrade Rivatuner to a new version, but I downloaded the latest. Should I still increase the fan speed? Also I was a bit confused on how to increase the fan speed. In the Power User Tab. It gave me a big list of options and a lot of them have to do with the fan. RivaTuner \ NVIDIA \ Fan RivaTuner \ NVIDIA \ Fan \ Current device RivaTuner \ Fan RivaTuner \ Fan \ Current device RivaTuner \ Monitoring \ System fan speed RivaTuner \ Monitoring \ CPU fan speed RivaTuner \ Monitoring \ Fan speed RivaTuner \ Monitoring \ Fan duty Cycle RivaTuner \ Monitoring \ Reference fan speed RivaTuner \ Monitoring \ Reference fan duty cycle I was going to do disable DEP but when I got to step 4 their was no "Run as Administrator", only "Run with different Credentials". I don't want to do anything without knowing so I thought I would ask first. I've also gone ahead and cleaned the dust out once more and put a fan blowing towards the back of my computer. Sorry for all the questions. I really appreciate all the help. |

Re: All my games give me an error.
to increase the fan speed in RivaTuner do this :
on the "Main" Tab, under "Target Adapter" choose customize, a list should appear, select the first picture (Video Card picture) a fan control system should appear click on "enable low level fan control" and if prompted to reboot, do so after you restart, run Rivatuner again and follow the above steps till you reach to the fan control page now you can increase the fan speed to any desired amount

Re: All my games give me an error.
Thanks, it was already set to 100%. Should I lower it to 60% or keep it their.
Also what usually happens on The Witcher is after an hour or two the map would be clear and then the next time I saved it would give me the error and kick me off. I played for around 2 hours and the map was clear, but when I saved it let me continue to play. I decided it would be best to stop there and let my computer rest, but at least I can continue on with the game instead of having to load old saves over and over. So I believe the problem is fixed, but I'll try and update if it happens again. Thanks! :D |

Re: All my games give me an error.
Yea to disable DEP you just need to run under different credentials.
The will be an option for "run as administrator. In vista, when you right click on a program, run as administrator shows up right away. Hopefully its fixed, I did have issues with DEP when I was running vista. |
