weird sims 2 bug

I got this bug a minute ago, it happened 3 times before I quit the game. Basically the police keep turning up to deal with a burglar, but I never called them, neither did anyone else in my house. It is draining my money since they charge 500 pounds when there is no burglar. Is anyone else having this problem or know how to fix it?
I have no custom content

Update the game to the latest patch.
Try reinstalling the game using Revo Uninstaller - www.revouninstaller.com
Then make sure your anti-virus is not blocking the game.
