[SOLVED] More Ram for crysis?
Guys its my first time experience with crysis and i love this game already it looks gr8 even on low settings. I am curretly playing at gamer settings and some settings like texture, shadows and water on enthusiast. Currently getting around 35-45 fps on 1024 X 768. I am looking to add another 2 gigz of ram and move to Vista 64x. Will i get more/same FPS on enthusiast settings on crysis in this way. I am not concerned with other games as i play most at 60fps maxed out.

Re: More Ram for crysis?
hello,
Adding more RAM will not increase the FPS it will just remove some lagness in game and will accelerate the loading times a bit, but 2 gigs of RAM is enough for Crysis, but it's good to get the extra RAM, it'll still help of course and if you have a Vista with 2 gigs of RAM than get the 4 gigs and the Vista 64 it'll be a great help for later games I'm just curious to know your PSU :P

Re: More Ram for crysis?
Hi rafay,
RockmasteR is spot-on. The extra RAM won't so much improve your FPS (maybe a little, but nothing huge), but will smooth things out and speed up loading times a bit. The extra RAM and Vista 64-bit will both come in very handy if you play any recent RTS games, like Supreme Commander. Your power supply, the CoolerMaster 460W, is a little too small for your system. You should be on a 600 - 700W unit. Click on "Power Supply Information" in my signature, and read through the thread you're taken to. It will explain why you need the right size power supply, and how much it might cost you if you don't have it. At the bottom, there is a list of recommended units for different system categories. Your system would be classed as either a "Power Desktop Computer" or a "High-End Power Gaming Computer", so take a look at the units recommended for those.

Re: More Ram for crysis?
You should be running your computer with this system
Corsair 750w ($10 more than the 650w) $120 after rebate $100 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139006 When I maxed out crysis (which plays fine at all very high settings 8x AA on Dx 10) I saw around 1.1gigs of ram used up and I know that the 9800GT can not do what a GTX 260 can. The ram problem won't speed up your system much, but it will be able to handle anything ram intensive that you can throw at it. You'll probably notice better frame rates when you get the new PSU since your current PSU is stuggling very hard to keep up.

Re: More Ram for crysis?
As a side note.
I have heard that Crysis has a memory leak in that the ram use comtinues to go up the longer that it is played. I havent done any formal testing on my system but after adding 2G more on my Vista system helped to prevent the game from running slower after time. Maybe someone here has some better information about this. |

Re: More Ram for crysis?
Thanks a ton everyone for your replies.
I forgot to mention that PSU upgrade is also in the pipeline. I am getting the Corsair 750w mention by Mcninjaguy, 2 GB ram and another western digital 320 GB. I know i wont get like 20fps increase but i am expecting atleast 5 fps increase in crysis with thie upgrade, particularly PSU and RAM and game may run much smoother. Hopefully!

Re: More Ram for crysis?
That is a wise choice, going with the Corsair 750W - an excellent unit. Your games should definitely run smoother with those upgrades. Glad we could help you.
