[SOLVED] jumpy movement in games

ok, well here it goes

As everyone knows, ati has 3d driver settings to overright application settings and force AA and other fine settings, i had this at max, but then i noticed some games AA got disabled, and some were forced by ati settings, making them run like crap, so i set it to application controlled, games with the AA disabled runned slower, so i just turnned it off (never a fan of AA anyways)

so, now all games run smoothly, except 2 ( i think theres a 3rd, but i cant remember)

So now, in Gears and FallOut3, only when my charicter moves the movement is jumpy, he'll just jump ahead a bit, but fequintly, i think it has to do with the fact that the charicter is visable and is an object in the game, where most your invisable to yourself.

any idea where the problem lies?

When you set it to 'application controlled' did you set everything else to 'default'? Some settings may still be forced even though you set the games to do what they want.

Re: jumpy movement in games

hello,
what is your fps when that happens?
try to force the V-sync on from the ATI control panel and see if that helps

also could you please post your full PC specs

Re: jumpy movement in games

my fps is fine, runs great some games between 30- 60 some higher.

with these games, the fps dosnt drop, just when i move :s

everything is set to default, yes.

my specs are :

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz
Memory (RAM) 2.00 GB
Graphics ATI Radeon HD 4650
Gaming graphics 1791 MB Total available graphics memory ( the extra 800 is shared)
Primary hard disk 120 GB
Plus a 320 gig HD

v-sync helps a bit with fo3, but not gears?

its just ones like that that have a 3rd person view that is changed with my mouse, prince of persia dosnt have that problem, dead space did, but v-sync fixed that, but it didnt fix it in gears and only helped mostly in FO3.

burnout paradise works fine, its 3rd person.

any game that the direction of the charicter is controlled by the mouse give me this issue, its odd.

ill play with the ati settings to see if i can get it to work right for all games...

Re: jumpy movement in games

its not the aim itself, its the movement of the charicter.

like in gears, if i stay still, aim shoot, whatever, its smooth, but when i walk or move around, it like jups every half a second, like, he'll instantly jump foward a bit (or witchever way im moving )

its verry odd, in other games with this issue such as dead space or fallout 3, v-sync fixed it (not completly with FO3, but its not as noticable)

but v-sync dosent help at all with gears

dont get me wrong, im not an expert, but for my age i uderstand quite well alot of the technolagy behind computers (more software then hardware)

i cant wrap my head around it, even with minimal settings it does this

but would low speed ram cause this? the ram i have is older ddr2 technolagy, so i have one running at 266 mghz and one at 400mghz

im starting to think that may be the issue

My memory is fuzzy, but I think you have to have "dx10/AA" enabled, along with vsync forced in control panel and selected in game.

...or was it disable dx10/aa and de-select vysnc in game.... Well, mess around with it enough and I assure you, you will get it working, I know I did.

TBH the computer version of Gears of war IMO is a complete wreck. The frame rates were awfull, accompanied by micro-skipping which happened and alluded to a cutscene every time. Just to be able to save your game you had to setup Games for Windows Live, which ended up taking over 2 days to do, along with hours on the phone with microsoft support( which bounced me from xbox support to Epic support lol.) Oh, dont forget that periodically and randomly your save games delete themselves due to lack of "syncing" with Live.....I think that about covers it.

Oh, all that and of course this tearing issue.....

Re: jumpy movement in games

hmm, didnt work, after other searching i came across somthing about my screens refresh rate, im running on a high resolution, so maybe if i lower it i can play (witch i dont want to, i got the game running at 1360 x 1024! )

apparently thats the issue, gears apparently dosnt like only 60mhz refresh rate, odd though cuz ut3 dosnt mind it. -_-'

that sucks, its the only game i have to run at a lower resolution! not fair!

now it dont look as good! :(

oh well, solved!

Re: [SOLVED] jumpy movement in games

yeah im sure, soon after my games refused to play at it, my desktop runs it though.

but i still think the speed of my ram has somthing to do with it too, so lowering the resolution just aided it to work, still have a bit of an issue with it in fallout3, but i dont play it as much anymore
