FPS Lag issues - I think

Hello,

Just wondering if I could gain some knowledge from people out there of a certain issue I have.

Firstly I will list my spec as it might make things easier:

OS: Windows XP Pro
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+
RAM: 2048MB
GPU: GeForce 9600GT - 512MB
2 Monitors - 1. Samsung 226BW (1680x1050) 2. Acer AL2017 (1400x1050)
DirectX version 9.0c

Ok, that should be enough information, but if not just ask.

Now for my problem. When playing games (WoW, Simcity 4, GTA, Far Cry) I am get 'random' what I believe to be FPS lag. The screen will jutter (Mouse doesn't) and then after 30 secs it has gone. I can be doing nothing and looking at the floor etc and it will still happen. I have lowered all the graphic effects in these games to zero! and still I get the issue.

I have had Task Manager up while this happens at it shows I am using about 65% of CPU (when playing the game), but the only process that is "sucking" power is the game in question. I have killed all running programs and disconnected myself from the internet and played the games that don't require internet access and still I get the issue.

I have also checked my temps:

CPU1: 52C
CPU2: 53C
GPU: 50C
HDD1: 25C
HDD2: 33C

I don't see anything 'alarming' in those temperatures which could pose an issue.

Can someone please let me know what they think?

EDIT: Forgot to add, I have checked for spyware and viruses also. :)

K, thanks for the suggestion, though I will take that as a very last resort.

I don't believe Dai is right in my case, but hey after I have tried everything else then I will consider repasting the CPU

Yep, I have those drivers also. Half of me wonders whether I am working the GPU to hard to display two screens and play a game.

Maybe a reformat might help but no guarrentee and that is a very very very last resort :P.

Re: FPS Lag issues - I think

your PSU is low quality and you don't have a big enough PSU anyways

Corsair 650w
$100
after rebate $80
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005

big difference between low quality $30 PSU's and $100 PSU's
