Keyboard Input Issue
Hello,
I have been having some really strange issues with my keyboard while playing ANY and ALL games on my PC. Here is what happens: If I am playing a FPS, it becomes impossible for me to jump, land, and then continue moving forward. It seems like my W key stops receiving input after a key combination; it also will stop receiving input after holding it down for some time. Now, this all started happening one day as I was playing CoD4 online. I was in a server, and from what I could gather, some dip sent out a bug to everyone playing in the server. This prevented people from doing what I described above. Ever since then, I have not been able to use the W key in combination with other keys in a game. I am at a loss here. Please, someone help me! |

Re: Keyboard Input Issue
I was hoping to avoid doing a system restore, and because it happened weeks ago, I wouldn't be able to really pinpoint the time.
Any other suggestions other than having to do any sort of restoration...? |

Re: Keyboard Input Issue
Actually, a system restore literally takes your computer back to where it was at the time you choose. All programs installed, modified, and etc. after that date will not be available at the system restore.
So, no one has any suggestions, huh? |

Re: Keyboard Input Issue
I have tried both PS/2 and USB keyboards. I did the system restore and no fix. I checked for an infection via anti-virus. I use Trend Micro as an anti-virus/anti-spyware program.
It only occurs in games. |

I really do not think it has to do with what I'm running considering this issue happened RIGHT after some dipshit did SOMETHING in CoD4 online. This is what I was explaining in my original post above.
I am really at a loss here. Like I said before, I am a well-versed tech and have never seen such a ridiculous issue like this before. I'm basically to the point where I think the only way to reverse this issue is to use my recovery partition...blah. It's okay guys; you've tried your best. I don't think there is much else to say on the issue. Admins can lock the topic. As an aside. I am able to successfully play games properly, but only because I switched forward walking from the W key to my back button on my mouse. Even then, i get a strange stutter when using the back button and a keyboard key together. Almost as if the inputs are crashing into each other. Strange stuff. Re: Keyboard Input Issue
the information requested gives us a picture of the computer
when you go into games is when your computer goes under load and the information shows us if it it capable of carrying the load without problems when you use the recovery partition did you try a restore point to an earlier time when all was ok to check if something loaded had caused the problem

I haven't and probably won't use my recovery partition for a while. I will probably wait until something much more drastic happens before starting all over. I can say that even restoring my PC to a MUCH earlier time before this incident occurred did not fix the issue. Who freakin' knows what happened! |

Re: Keyboard Input Issue
Check in your Control Panel and make sure it isn't using FilterKeys (accessibility).
Also, try downloading this program (it's clean I promise). Basically it checks how many keys are being held down at once and whether or not they are registering. It depends which matrix the keys are laid out on. On my keyboard I can generally use 6 keys at a time, but in certain cases I can only use 3 (QAZ). Might be worth trying anyway. |

Re: Keyboard Input Issue
Thanks Tiber. Now I for sure know what is going on.
So, basically, my computer stops reading keyboard input if I am holding down one key and then go to hold down another. Here's an example: W key-pressed and Shift key-pressed at same time (works) As soon as I lift my finger off ONE of the keys, the other key(s) no longer registers. This should NOT be happening. What the hell could cause such a problem...jesus. |
