Re: PC freezing during gameplay

hello and welcome to TSF
first of all, can you please explain what is the freezing? is it momentary or permanently where you have to restart your PC.
Let's try those steps :
1- download the AMD Dual Core Optimizer from here :
AMD Dual Core Optimizer

2- download Speedfan from my sig and use it to see the CPU and video card temps when idle and when under stress
post them here

3- let's test your RAM
download Memtest from here : Memtest
unzip it using any zip software like 7z or winrar and burn it to a CD

Re: PC freezing during gameplay

Posting the voltages and temperatures would be helpful as requested. You are too light on the power supply for that video card, you need a 550 watt power supply in there to do the job for you because 480 watts is just not strong enough. That alone (with other possible issues) can cause what you are seeing.

Re: PC freezing during gameplay

will do those tests as soon as i get on my pc back home, but when i said it freezes, sometimes gameplay just freezes and continues after a few seconds, other times is just locks the whole thing and after i need to reset the pc.....i suspected it might be the power supply, but i thought id check out the other variables before splashing the $$ hehe...

just like tumbleweed said, your PSU is not sufficient enough to run that ATI card
you can get this PSU :
Corsair 650W

Re: PC freezing during gameplay

Rockmaster has given you a link to one of the best power supplies out there and it is a reasonable price.

Re: PC freezing during gameplay

I went through a couple sites and no indication of the amps on the 4 rails

I don't trust this PSU

The corsair 650w is probably just a powerful as that Black magic PSU but with more stability since it uses one nice single 12v rail

and the rails's amps doesn't usually add up correctly so its not quite worth it

Re: PC freezing during gameplay

I too am skeptical when one can't find the complete specs on a power supply. Honestly though, I have to say I don't know since we are unable to pinpoint the specs that tell most of the story. Any time one purchases a no-name (specs not clearly specified) power supply, you are taking a risk.

What country are you in?

Re: PC freezing during gameplay

If this supplier in your area? Here is an OCZ 700 watt power supply that is much better than the one you listed:

Re: PC freezing during gameplay

yesterday i plugged in a device to show power consumption in wattage....while playing hawx (which usually stalls at some random point) the max it reached was 270 watts. and btw yesterday it didn't crash...driving me nuts....can this be caused by any other parts other than the psu?
