Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Choppy Gameplay

First off, I followed all of the steps in the optimizing system for games thread (stickied). I've read online that My graphics card ATI Radeon X1300 pro will run the game, and I've also used Systemrequirementslab to determine if i can run it and it says i even pass the recommended requirements. So what is my problem here?

My system:
Intel Pentium 4 with HT @ 3.00 Ghz
1024 MB RAM
ATI Radeon X1300 Pro
200GB space in my HDD
Onboard Sound Card

I put everything on lowest. No anti-aliasing, very low shadows, no blurs, lowest resolution. Any help is appreciated.

PS. Since I have no luck with RSV2, will my computer handle just RB Vegas? On lowest settings?

Re: Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Choppy Gameplay

Sorry for the incomplete Information.

Video Card: ATI Radeon X1300 pro (PCI-e x16, 256MB VRAM)
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 630. 3.00 GHz with HT
Mobo: Dell 0RD203
RAM: 1024MB DDR2-SDRAM (4x256 MB - 266 Mhz)
Power Supply Model: Antec Earthwatts EA430 (I think, according to a user on newegg, it has a 30 amp 12v rail)
Wattage: 430
Voltage: 1.42 V
I am not quite sure what you mean by temperatures, I used PC Wizard 2008 to show me info about my system, only temp. I could find was my 2 HDDs: 39 and 37 degrees Celsius.

To be honest, Upgrading isn't really an option.
Thanks.

Check for hardware conflicts.

Press 'Windows Logo' + Pause/Break, go to the Hardware tab, press Device Manager, press all the plus signs and look for an exclamation mark, double click on that and post what you find.

430W is quite low for a PCI-E card, you should upgrade, even though you say it's not an option, to a 500W or 550W, it's not too expensive.

Re: Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Choppy Gameplay

Well The 430W Model is already the "upgraded" model. The stock PSU is 300W. However, I'll look into that.
About the Hardware Conflicts: I found 1 exclamation point next to Magic Device under Saitek Magic Bus (I have an Saitek AV8R-01 joystick).

Double click on that and tell me what it says, install or upgrade any drivers for that, believe it or not that CAN be causing the problem.
Since you can't really upgrade a PSU, you may have to buy a new one, as I said 500W or 550W.

Re: Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Choppy Gameplay

I have installed the drivers and there are no more exclamation points. I didn't find much improvements, if any, in gameplay. I get about 5 or 7 FPS, which makes the game unplayable...

Re: Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Choppy Gameplay

The Antec Earthwatts 430W has approx 27A on the combined +12V lines. This is borderline for a PCIE card. With a better quality make, you might get away with it, but the Antec Earthwatts is not a particularly good model.

Can you borrow a good quality 550W PSU to test? This is just to confirm whether the problem is being caused by a weak PSU.

Also, your RAM's clock speed of 266MHz is very low. Modern RAM is usually 667/800MHz. Check your motherboard manual to see if you can use higher speed RAM.

Re: Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Choppy Gameplay

Thanks for all the support. I at the moment cannot get my hands on a more powerful PSU. One interesting thing is that (don't know if it's relevant) the graphics card draws power from the mobo, not a pci-e power connector. If I have a chance in the near future, I'll upgrade my RAM to newer models with higher clock speeds. I am short on money at the moment because I spent it on home networking upgrades.
Thanks anyway.
If there anything else I can do, please let me know!

PS: Despite the fact that my system's outdated, will it be able to run Rainbow Six Vegas (the first one)?

Re: Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Choppy Gameplay

If you fix this problem then you will be able to play it, you can also go to www.canyourunit.com too find out.

I guess the GPU does not need pure direct power so it can draw off the mobo, sort of like how some devices can draw off of a USB port and not need a whole plug.

Re: Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Choppy Gameplay

I apologize, but what is "this problem"?
Also I find systemrequirementslab reliable at times. It shows that I can run Vegas 2 at recommended settings, but apparently I proved it wrong.

Re: Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Choppy Gameplay

erm, the problem is what your experiencing right now, choppy gameplay.
I'm sure you CAN run it, we will find some kind of bottleneck somewhere, and I'm sure it's the PSU.
