GTA 4 MAJOR lag

This is my system specs:
3Ghz Pentium 4 socket 478
2GB DDR-400 RAM
Sapphire Radeon X1950 Pro 512mb
800Mhz FSB
300GB SATA HDD

The game will not run without lag on LOWEST settings (800x480, view and detail all set to 1 etc.) and is unplayable. Any ideas?

this game requires a pretty high end machine and I'm afraid to say it not optimized like Crysis Warhead so you can still play it on a system like yours

I would say both your CPU and your graphics card are both limiting factors

your hardware is too old to run the it. what I know is even high end systems are having a hard time with that game.

I can only run the game on high settings not very high settings and the default depth of sight settings

look at "My System"

Ive only managed to squeeze 25-30fps out of it with everything on Max. For the most parts its playable. I would say that GTA IV is very processor intense a single core CPU just can't cope with what GTA requires if you wish to play the game at a higher graphical level then you will need to upgrade.

Well my specs all exceed the minimum requirements except for the CPu and surely my 3GHZ P4 is equal to a 1.8GHZ daulcore? Ive heard of people running it on systems much slower than mine.

A single core can not be compared to a Dual core properly. Although the single core is faster the Dual core can do more at one time, which is what GTA needs. It has so much going on it needs 2 threads running simultaneously, Single core can only run one thread at a time.

Another note, minimal specs only specify what you need to "start" the game, it doesn't mean the game will be playable.
Also GTA IV has been ported from Xbox to PC poorly. If it was ported properly i would say a system similar to play Crysis would be sufficient.
