installing CoD 4

I have recently installed a new copy of xp onto my machine, and i wanted to kepp all of my files, so i offloaded all of my game files onto another hard drive. Once i put the game files back onto the old HDD, i couldnt run or install any of my games. this is a big problem because i lost my Call of Duty disc and was wondering if it is possible to install the game without the disc even if all of the files are there.

thanks

Re: installing CoD 4

Probably not, as I am assuming you didn't back up your registry files?

Re: installing CoD 4

most windows games need registry entries to run the game

only game that comes to mind that can brought around in a external HDD is WoW

as long as you still have your CD key I would see if you can ask a friend to copy a the disc for you, I don't think its stealing. you will need the disk though

Re: installing CoD 4

yeah that would make a lot of sense.
i just went on the game support site a few mins ago and they also said that the disc has to be there to install anything.

anyway, thanks for the help
