My System

Random Screen Blackouts on Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X.

Hi

I recently got hold of Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. for PC. It installed fine and I got it running. I went into to the settings section and chose the recommended settings for my system. I then started the game, and when flying, every few seconds the screen blacks out - it's similar to the one that you get when changing the resolution settings in a game and it blacks out for a second then returns about two seconds after. The game freezes before the blackout but then continues fine afterwards. The music sometimes stutters but other times it just keeps going. I've tried changing all the settings to as low as possible, disabling HDR, AA, (also changed refresh rate) but this only makes the blackouts more infrequent, but doesn't wipe them out completely. Anyone know what to do?

Here's my spec:

AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core 5200+ OC'd to 3.1GHz per core
4GB DDR2 RAM @ 667MHz
ATI Radeon HD3850 GPU
Acer AL1913 LCD 19" Monitor

Thanks in anticipation,

Luke

Hi.
Could you please post the specs for your power supply?
Most important is make/model and number of amps on the +12v rail/s.
All that information will be on the side of the PSU itself, on a label.

Also, download CoreTemp and GPU-Z from my signature.
Run both when the system is idle, make note of the temperatures, then run HAWX for a couple of minutes, quickly quit out and check the temps again.
Post both sets of figures back please.

Re: Random Screen Blackouts on Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X.

Hi there,

My PSU is a COLORSit 500u, here are the power ratings:

+3.3V: 28A
+5V: 30A
+12V: 20A
-12V: 0.5A
+5VSB: 2A
500W Max

Been running GPU-Z and Core temp; here's the info

CPU Temp Idle: ~24C
CPU Temp In HAWX Low Settings: 48C
CPU Temp In HAWX High Settings: 48C

GPU Temp Idle: ~38C
GPU Temp In HAWX Low Settings: 56C
GPU Temp In HAWX High Settings: 65C

Oh, and I got 2 blackouts on Low Settings and two on High also.

Thanks very much for your help,

Re: Random Screen Blackouts on Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X.

How odd.
I have just tried running the game in DirectX10 mode, and it works A-OK
I can even max it out fully and still get a decent FPS!
So...solved?
Haha thanks for your help though

you need a new PSU

Corsair 650w
3.3V@24A
+5V@30A
+12V@52A (what you should be worried about)
-12V@0.8A
+5VSB@3.0A
$90
after rebate $70

your current PSU is absolute garbage
