Half Life 2/Half Life 2 Lost Coast crashing

I have had a problem recently with Half Life 2 and Half Life 2: Lost Coast crashing/freezing while loading. The game launches from Steam just fine, but it freezes while loading before the main menu comes up. I've reinstalled it and all, and I know my hardware is compatible (I replaced the hard drive but I had played the game on this computer before).

I read a thread about this from last year, but the advice that I got from it did not help. It suggested running the game in windowed mode instead of full-screen, but I'd rather fix the real problem instead of bypassing it.

There was a suggestion of adding '-no -dxlevel 90 +mat_forcehardwaresync 0' to the shortcut, but this did not seem to work either.

I would post specs about my computer, but for some reason the "system" information through the control panel won't come up, and that's something for a different part of the forum. However, the hardware works fine, so I'm pretty sure the problem is not related to my OS or hardware.

Hope there's a solution out there somewhere,
Thanks!

Hi Wooden Parrot and welcome to TSF,

Could you post your system anyway.
Also when you replaced your HDD and had to re-install XP have you made sure you have installed all driver, including the drivers from the motherboard CD.

Re: Half Life 2/Half Life 2 Lost Coast crashing

Sure thing. For some reason I couldn't pull up my control panel earlier. Anyway...

Windows XP Professional sp2
2 AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3600+
2gb RAM
320gb WD hard drive
ATI Radeon X1550 Series

Not gonna lie, I'm pretty in the dark about most everything else in my computer and I've been having problems installing sound drivers, so this is really all the info I have. Hope it helps.

What is the make/model of your motherboard. I can help you find the correct drivers for everything, this will eliminate one possible problem.

Ok I downloaded Belarc, so I've got all that info now.

Board: MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD MS-7253 1.00
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG 09/01/2006

And I think with that I just found the drivers on their website.
I'm downloading the drivers right now, so I'll try them out.
