[SOLVED] Trouble loading games

Trouble loading games.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I installed COD4 yesterday,,on the 1st go after install i can get about 10mins of action before it freezes.

i have to re-boot the Pc. upon loading COD4 it says it be best to play in safemode, only i never get to that as the games window shrinks and goes to the task bar.

After that when i goto load COD4 or any game,,it opens for a second and closes and minimizes to the task bar. Yet the audio carries on.

I think this problem started when i downloaded the FEAR2 demo. when i try and load that demo it says Binkw32.dll is missing. not sure if its related

I have re-installed the game, installed the latest audio and graphics drivers.

When i went to the DirectX diagnostic tool,,,it does the TestDirectDraw fine. However when i do the Test Direct3D, it starts the test, but after a second a box comes back that says 'You cancelled the test by pressing a key'. I have retested without a keyboard and still shows the same box.

I don't think its a power issue,,,however tomorrow i will open it up and check the video card and HD connections.

I would love to know how to solve this,,hopefully it doesn't require buying a new graphics card.

PC SPecs

I have Hiper modular 580 watts PSU
i think i have 2x 12v rails, the number of amps is 18 and 20.

CPU Intel dual core 2.13ghz
2 gig of RAM
XFM 7600GT XXX (graphics card)
Sound Blaster X-Fi Fata1ty edition (sound card)
P5N32-E Sli Plus mobo
WD 320 GB hard drive

Re: Trouble loading games

Hi Mcninjaguy

Thanks for the links,,i have downloaded the latest version of DirectX.

downloaded the Rad Tools package,,all looks a bit complicated. The FEAR error i think is specific to just that game.

Anyway, i think i have a PSU problem. I have a quality Hiper PSU,,however it gets a lot of use,,i have plenty of fans in my PC. not even 2 year old.

Anyway i was reading how Aibooster was not as good as PC Probe, so i ran PC Probe and immmediatley it told me there was a +3.3 Voltage warning. it is currently running at 2.96.

Had i better stop using my PC?
any tips,,,buy an even more powerful PSU?

Re: Trouble loading games

I downloaded Speedfan,,,and it says the GPU is at critical i guess as there is the flame logo and a reading of 52 c.

It also says the GPU fan is at 2071 rpm.

Re: Trouble loading games

speedfan is always like that...
52 C for the GPU is very good
all new GPUs can handle heat up to 110 C, but its best to keep the heat below 70-75 C

here you can get the missing binkw32.dll

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dl....shtml?binkw32

Re: Trouble loading games

what are you talking about Droach75?

there is no need of talking about registry "fixing" programs. They don't do anything anyways.

Re: Trouble loading games

sorry for the confusion Mcninjaguy,,,i should have read the whole page rather than just hitting the biggest download button.

I did as instructed and put the file in windows /system folder.

As for COD4,,its still not loading,,,I downloaded and played the demo OK when it came out.

After installing the DLL file, i re-installed COD4,,i played a few mins, the video setting were for about 800x600, CPU or power maybe? as the sound wasn't even optimised for 5.1

I installed an old game Soldier of Fortune 2,,that works fine,,however that used DirectX 8.1

I am thinkin a new Graphics card or WinXP re-install or possible upgrade to Vista.

Re: Trouble loading games

Went and downloaded the COD4 demo again to see if that worked. just tried to launch the setupe.exe prog and i got a pop up box stating it is not a valid Win32 application. Not sure if that means anything.

Re: Trouble loading games

About the 'Not a valid Win32 Application' error. It's problem with with the file itself, I've read about a bunch of people having the same problem. Either the file is corrupt, or it hasn't been fully downloaded (If you are using a download manager).

When you are running the normal game, do you have any programs running in the background? Anything at all, AntiVirus, Instant messaging, DVD burning tools, even Steam.
If so, turn it all off, then give it a try.

Re: Trouble loading games

Tiber Septim great tip,,,i went and cleared out my task bar area of unnessary progs & stuff. turns out some keyboard software/program that handled the keyboards Hotkeys was the issue.

Game plays as well as it will.,,incidently GPU is runnig at 75c

Went and tested DXDiag,,and now i can see the spinning cube.

Suceess

thanks so much guys,,,may still invest in some more ram and a new graphics card,,just to play the game crash free.
