fraps isnt recordng game well

My son is trying to use FRAPS to record his zoo tycoon 2 PC game on windows XP - it is recording, but when he plays it back to watch it before uploading it to youtube, it plays back with a bunch of vertical lines running through it, lilke something went wrong. you can see the game but there are lines all over it. could this be a frames per second problem? our computer is really old, maybe it cant handle playing and recording so it puts out a messed up video? any ideas? thank you

Hello Airbucket and welcome to TSF
what you can do to fix this:
1- Reinstall Fraps : maybe the fraps codecs are corrupted so a reinstall can fix the problem
2- download K-lite Codec packs : it's a file containing lots of codecs important for playing certain audio and video files
